TWISTERS LOOKS TO BE A SCREAM-INDUCING THRILL RIDE
The follow-up to the 1996 blockbuster looks to be another epic studio disaster movie, which will feature an adrenaline-pumping, seat-gripping, big-screen experience that will put audiences at the edge of their seats. The upcoming sequel will put audiences up close and personal with one of nature’s most destructive forces, that of a tornado.

The upcoming sequel comes from the producers of the Jurassic Park, Jason Bourne, and Indiana Jones series. The new film is a present-day follow-up of the 1996 film from director Lee Isaac Chung, the Oscar-nominated writer-director of Minari. The film stars Golden Globe Award nominee Daiser Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing), Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You star Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts). Edgar-Jones and Powell portray opposing forces who come together as they seek to predict and possibly tame the awesome power of tornadoes.
Edgar-Jones portrays Kate Cooper, an ex-storm chaser who is haunted by a previous devastating encounter with a tornado when she was in college. She now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City. She is lured back to the open plains of Oklahoma by her friend, Javi (Ramos), to test a new groundbreaking tracking system. She eventually crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Powell), a reckless and charming social media star who posts his storm-chasing adventures online with his raucous crew. The more dangerous his escapades are, the better for Owens.
The story takes place during storm season, as terrifying phenomena are unleashed like never before seen. Kate, Tyler, and their competing teams eventually find themselves in the path of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma as they take part in the fight of their lives.
Edgar Jones, Ramos, and Powell are also joined by Brandon Perea (Nope), Sasha Lane (American Honey), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders), Kiernan Shipka, Nik Dodani, and Golden Globe Award winner Maura Tierney (Beautiful Boy, The Iron Claw). Lee Isaac Chung directs the film from a script by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant). It’s produced by longtime veteran Frank Marshall. Universal is releasing the film domestically, while Warner Bros. Pictures is handling distribution overseas.

The first film grossed $241 million during its original release, so it’s clear to see why the studio would want a sequel, which is a long time coming. Twisters will open in theaters on July 19.
