THE FALL GUY BRINGS THE ADVENTURES OF COLT SEAVERS TO THE BIG SCREEN

The upcoming film is based on the classic 1980s television series of the same name that starred Lee Majors as the titular hero. The show ran for five seasons from 1981 to 1986 on ABC with a total of 113 episodes. The new film comes from celebrated filmmaker David Leitch of John Wick, Bullet Train, Deadpool 2, and Atomic Blonde fame. Considering that Leitch himself is a former stuntman turned director, the concept is appropriate subject matter for him.

The film follows the stuntman Colt Seavers, who has seen it all. He’s been blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows, and dropped from the highest of heights for audience entertainment. Following a career-ending accident, Seavers now has to track down a missing movie star and solve a deadly conspiracy to win back the love of his life. It’s all in a good day’s work for Colt Seavers, so what could possibly go right?

Leitch is directing this film as a love letter to action movies, and the hard-working crew members who make them. Oscar-nominated Gosling stars as the battle-scarred Colt Seavers. The film picks up about a year after Seavers left the business due to the physical and mental toll it took on his health. He’s drafted back into service to on the film of his ex-girlfriend, Jody Moreno, portrayed by Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place). However, things take a turn for the worse when the star of the movie, Tom Ryder (Golden Globe Award winner Aaron Taylor-Johnson), goes missing.

While the film’s producer (Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham of Ted Lasso fame) endeavors to keep the star’s disappearance a secret from the studio and the media, Colt looks to pull off the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying to charm his way back into the good graces of Jody. As the mystery deepens, Colt finds himself in a sinister, criminal plot that pushes him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any movie stunt.

The film also stars Winston Duke (Black Panther) and Academy Award-nominated actress Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once). Leitch directs from a script by Drew Pearce. It’s produced by Kelly McCormick and Leitch for their 87North production company, along with Gosling and Guymon Casady for Entertainment 360. Pearce executive produces the film along with Entertainment 360’s Geoff Shaevitz and the original creator of the Fall Guy television series, Glen A. Larson.

The original TV series The Fall Guy followed the exploits of Colt Seavers, who worked as a Hollywood stuntman while also moonlighting as a bounty hunter, bringing in bounties of bail skippers for the police and getting involved with various cases and crimes. Gosling’s characterization looks quite different than the Lee Majors version of Colt Seavers from the original TV show.

This subject matter is very close to Leitch, who also grew up as a huge fan of the original television series. So it should be interesting to see what Gosling comes up with along with a talented filmmaker such as David Leitch. The Fall Guy arrives in theaters on May 3.
