WWE Superstar Damian Priest recently spoke about why the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships matter and why it is important to him to elevate them. Damian Priest and his fellow Judgment Day member Finn Bálor currently hold Undisputed WWE Tag Team champions. They have held those championships with pride and defended them on a regular basis.

Damian Priest was recently interviewed by Inside The Ropes and talked about the importance of making the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships matter again. He stated the following on the subject:
“I think it goes without saying that unfortunately, there was a time where the tag team titles fell off a little bit and they weren’t as important as they should be. Then, obviously, the focus came back. WrestleMania [39 night one] main event, tag team titles, that’s a wild one. No one could have predicted that the [WWE] Tag Team Championships would be the main event of one of the nights in WrestleMania. So that tells you everything you need to know as far as where they are now as far as importance.
“So you take that and then Finn Bálor and I winning these championships twice … It’s so cool to know that we are a part of something that’s important and it’s neat to know that we’re [Finn Bálor and I] carrying that tradition of making sure that the titles stay important, and we take pride in that. We don’t want the titles to fall off again. I don’t think anybody does. You can tell by how many people want the tag team championships. It’s not just tag teams, it’s individual big stars that want to team up with somebody to take the titles from us. I think that’s awesome.”

How Damian Priest Is Helping Elevate the Tag Team Division
Priest and Bálor are fighting champions unlike someone in WWE right now. He wants anyone who thinks they can take the tag titles from him to step up and try. He and Bálor have held the championships since October and have been very dominant champions thus far. They haven’t been afraid to defend those championships against anyone who wants to take them.
The WWE tag team division has not always been a strong one in the last few years. WWE had a few official tag teams who would wrestle for and trade the tag titles with each other. The division was The Usos, New Day, RK-Bro, and Alpha Academy all wrestling each other over and over again. WWE would throw in a quick pairing to win the championships and quickly lose them. The most recent examples of this are Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso, along with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
The division seemed like an afterthought in WWE. WWE would quickly put together a tag team feud for the championships that no one cared about. Sometimes the matches were pretty good, but it just wasn’t something that could hold the fan’s interest.
In May 2022, The Usos unified the WWE Tag Team Championships. Through the course of their reign, they elevated the titles by defending them in some high-quality matches. While working as heels as part of the hated Bloodline faction, The Usos were accused of holding the titles hostage like Roman Reigns has been accused of with the WWE Universal Championship. No team could defeat them and it made fans excited to see if their challengers would be the ones to dethrone them.

At WrestleMania last year The Usos finally met their match in two best friends. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn challenged The Usos in the main event of night one. The match was considered by many to be the best match of both nights of WrestleMania. Zayn and Owens became the new Undisputed WWE Tag Team champions and helped to elevate those championships to where they are today.
Damian Priest and Bálor defeated Owens and Zayn in the first run of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships. They were later defeated by Rhodes and Uso, but quickly won them back nine days later. They have successfully defended their tag team championships four times.
Damian Priest talked about wanting to do something important in WWE and make an impact. He admitted that going into WrestleMania as tag team champions makes him and the Judgement Day more important.
Damian Priest is already thinking about going into WrestleMania as a tag team champion, but there is one big problem with that. Next Saturday, Feb. 24, at WWE Elimination Chamber: Perth, he and Bálor will defend their championships against Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate. This may be their toughest test yet as Dunne and Bate are something different from what they are used to facing on Raw.
