LANDMAN: Jon Hamm Lands Role in New Paramount+ Original Series

Emmy-winning actor Jon Hamm has landed his next drama series for Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. He will appear in the new MTV Entertainment Studios drama, Landman. Hamm will portray a recurring guest star role in the upcoming 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions series.

Emmy-winning actor Jon Hamm has landed his next drama series for Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. He will appear in the new MTV Entertainment Studios drama, Landman. Hamm will portray a recurring guest star role in the upcoming 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions series.

Per the press release from Paramount+, Hamm will portray Monty Miller, a titan of the Texas oil industry who has a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy Norris, portrayed by Oscar-winning actor and series lead Billy Bob Thornton. The show is currently in the works to air exclusively on Paramount+.

The new show will take place in the boomtowns of West Texas. It will be the contemporary, modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of West Texas oil rigs. The show is based on the 11-part podcast series, Boomtown, and will be an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big that it’s reshaping the world’s climate, economy, and geopolitics.

Hamm is best known for his performance as Don Draper in the award-winning series, Mad Men, which netted him a Primetime Emmy Award in 2015 for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, Golden Globe Awards in 2016 and 2008, and Television Critics Association Awards in 2011 and 2015, a Critics’ Choice Television Award in 2011, and multiple Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. More recently, he starred in the fifth season of the acclaimed anthology series, Fargo, which earned him a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination.

Ham also recently appeared in Season 3 of The Morning Show and the hit Neil Gaiman series, Good Omens. He also earned three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in 30 Rock from 2009 to 2012.

Besides Thornton and Hamm, Landman also stars Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, Paulina Chavez, and Demi Moore. The series is currently filming in and around Fort Worth, Texas. It’s executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Christian Wallace, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, and Stephen Kay. Dan Friedkin and Jason Hoch are executive producing the show for Imperative Development LLC, and J.K.

Nickell and Megan Creydt are also executive producing the show for Texas Monthly. Meanwhile, Peter Feldman serves as co-executive producer.

The show is the latest of Sheridan’s growing slate on the Paramount+ streaming service. His other shows include on the streamer include 1923, 1883, Special Ops: Lioness, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

A series built around the Texas oil industry and boomtowns sounds like a good premise and concept for a new drama series. The show also has impressive muscle behind it in front of and behind the camera with actors such as Jon Hamm and Billy Bob Thornton involved, not to mention Taylor Sheridan.
