There will be more adventures to come for Dr. Frasier Crane. Paramount+ this week announced that the new original comedy series, Frasier, starring Kelsey Grammer, will be back for a second season on the streaming service. The show, a continuation of the classic sitcom that ran from 1993 to 2004, debuted last year with 10 episodes on Paramount+.

The upcoming second season will once again be filmed in front of a live studio audience. The show is produced by CBS Studios and filmed in front of a live audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, California. In the new series, Dr. Frasier Crane starts the next chapter of his life, relocating to Boston, Massachusetts, forging new relationships, and finally fulfilling an old dream or two.

FRASIER REVIVAL RENEWED FOR A SECOND SEASON

In the new series’ pilot, Frasier moves back to Boston not long after the passing of his father Martin (the late John Mahoney in the original series). He then accepts a position as a professor at Harvard and seeks to stay to reconnect with his son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott), who is a Boston firefighter. Since Freddy is much more like his grandfather, obviously, the two have difficulty finding common ground.

Speaking on the news via a press release, Paramount+ Executive Vice President of Programming Jeff Grossman commented, “Kelsey made a triumphant return as one of the most iconic and beloved characters on television.” He continued, “The new series introduced Frasier to a whole new generation while reminding fans of Kelsey’s truly timeless portrayal of Dr. Crane. We’re so excited to see what the creative team and superb cast serve up for season two.”

Series star and executive producer Kelsey Grammer added, “Frasier is a love story, and I am very happy we will be allowed to continue it. I’m delighted that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season, and I can’t wait for the fans to see what we have in store!”

Rounding out the cast are Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasier’s old college classmate-turned-university professor, Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department, Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Freddy’s friend and a single mother, and Anders Keith as David, Frasier’s Nephew. David is also the son of Niles Crane (David Hyde-Pierce) and Daphe (Jane Leeves) from the original series.

Returning cast members from the original series on the new show in the first season included Bebe Neuwirth as Frasier’s ex-wife, Lilith, and Peri Gilpin as Dr Crane’s friend and old radio show producer, Roz Doyle. The original series still holds the record for most Emmy wins for a comedy series with 37 wins and 107 nominations.
