After announcing the main cast for the film on Valentine’s Day, Marvel has kept busy building up their Fantastic Four roster. The next name on the line was a big one: Silver Surfer. Only this time, it will be a slightly different version than the one we’re used to.
Deadline is reporting that Ozark star Julia Garner will be playing Shalla-Bal, a specific comic version of Silver Surfer from the comics. We still don’t know how she will factor into the story. Now that the Silver Surfer is confirmed to be a part of the movie, it’s a matter of time before we find out who is playing Galactus.
Though Antonio Banderas had ben rumored a year ago, and even uploaded a video to social media where he was having a mold of his face made, the latest name to go around Internet circles is another Spanish-born high-profile actor, Javier Bardem.

Vanessa Kirby stars as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, with Pedro Pascal set to play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic. Joseph Quinn is playing Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach will be in the motion capture suit as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
Shooting will begin this summer in London, aiming for a July 2025 release date. Matt Shakman directs from a script that’s gone through multiple scribes, including Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Ian Springer, and Eric Pearson.
Garner is most recognized for her recurring role in Netflix’s Ozark, as well as another series for the platform, Maniac, which starred Emma Stone. She also got an Emmy nomination for Inventing Anna, and was last seen co-starring with Jessica Henwick in The Royal Hotel, which premiered late last year. She’s currently filming Blumhouse’s Wolf Man with Christopher Abbott and director Leigh Whannell.
