Fans of the epic sci-fi saga, 3 Body Problem, can breathe a little easier. The series has been officially renewed by Netflix. During today's Netflix Upfronts presentation, Netflix announced that the show will be returning with all-new episodes to the streaming service.

Fans of the epic sci-fi saga, 3 Body Problem, can breathe a little easier. The series has been officially renewed by Netflix. During today’s Netflix Upfronts presentation, Netflix announced that the show will be returning with all-new episodes to the streaming service.

The next three episodes of the show will be created, executive produced, and written by the returning trio of David Benioff, D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones), and Alexander Woo (The Terror, True Blood). Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria announced the renewal during Netflix’s Upfront presentation in New York City.

Per the announcement, the new episodes will take viewers through the full journey of the epic saga. Unfortunately, all other details on the renewal are being kept under wraps, including the number of seasons and episodes for the renewal. However, Netflix says these details will be revealed later on.

Speaking on the news, Benioff, Weiss, and Woo said in a joint statement, “We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion.” They continued, “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!”

Netflix’s Vice President of Scripted Series (US & Canada) Peter Friedlander added on the announcement, “The extraordinary 3 Body Problem, brought to life with the deft hands of Benioff, Weiss, and Woo will soar to never-before-seen heights as they tackle the rest of the mind-blowing journey through Death’s End.” Friedlander continued, “Their brilliant vision as storytellers is matched by their amazing partnership — and, just like the fans, we can’t wait to see what they have in store.”

The series is based on the bestselling novels by Cixin Liu. The show was No. 1 on Netflix for three weeks and charted seven weeks in the Top 10 for the streamer. It also reached the Top 10 in 93 countries. The show explores how humanity chooses to respond to its gravest threat. It begins during China’s Cultural Revolution in the 1960s, introducing Ye Wenje (Zine Tseng and later Rosalind Chao), a young woman who’ll go on to make a fateful decision that reverberates across space and time and into the present day.

When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel, a tight-knit group of brilliant scientists known as the Oxford Five must join forces with an unflinching detective, along with a mysterious intelligence agency in order to save the world. The series also stars Jovan Adepo as Saul Durand, John Bradley as Jack Rooney, Liam Cunningham as Thomas Wade, Eiza Gonzalez as Auggie Salazar, Jess Hong as Jin Cheng, Marlo Kelly as Tatiana Haas, Alex Sharp as Will Downing, Sea Shimooka as Sophon, Zine Tseng as Young Ye Wenjie, Saamer Usmani as Raj Varma, Benedict Wong as Da Shi, and Jonathan Pryce as Mike Evans.

The series is also executive produced by Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodrigue for T-Street. Q-Lin, the late former Chairman of Yoozoo Group, and Jilong Zhao, CEO of the rights-holder, The Three-Body Universe, are executive producers, as well as Xiaosong Gao and Lauren Ma. Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dede Gardner are also executive producers for the show for Plan B Entertainment. Also, Rosamund Pike and Robie Uniacke are executive producers for the series under the Primitive Streak banner.

The first season of 3 Body Problem is streaming now on Netflix. The new episodes and season will debut exclusively on the streamer at a later date.
