Amazon Prime Video brought the big guns on Tuesday to the TV Upfronts in New York, in their first-ever presentation in front of ad buyers. Among their many announcements, they confirmed that the live-action Noir series, based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir, that’s been circling the press for a few months is not only official but has been ordered to series.

Nicholas Cage will star, reprising his role from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (presumably he will also be in Beyond the Spider-Verse.) Harry Bradbeer, Emmy-winning director and executive producer of Fleabag, will direct and executive produce the first two episodes. Oren Uziel, Steve Lightfoot, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal will also be EPs on the project, with Uziel and Lightfoot sharing a co-showrunner title.
Here is the official logline for the series:
Noir tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.
Vernon Sanders, head of TV at Amazon Studios, said in a statement:
“Expanding the Marvel universe with Noir is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers. The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”

Katherine Pope, President Sony Pictures Television Studios, which produces the series, added:
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character. Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”
Sony Pictures Television Developing Spider-Man Noir Series Starring Nicholas Cage
It’s not the first time Sony and Amazon have tried to team up for a live-action Spider-Man-adjacent series. Both companies tried for years to get a Silk series going, but it did not go far in development yet.
It’s Sony’s latest attempt to retain their Spider-Man rights, as they expand their feature film efforts into TV. More projects they haven’t announced yet could be on the way too. But they have plenty to worry about with their films. A new MCU movie starring Tom Holland should start shooting later this year, and they already have a Venom threequel and a Kraven the Hunter movie lined up to be released in 2024.

As teased at the end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Cage’s Spider-Man Noir should return in the third film in the animated saga, Beyond the Spider-Verse. Though this hasn’t been confirmed yet, Cage reprising his role in live-action adds more proof that it will be the case. The film has not been dated yet.
The Noir series starring Nicholas Cage will stream exclusively on Prime Video. It does not yet have an official release date or period.
