In Jan 2021 Netflix aired the first season of Fate: The Winx Saga, the first non-animated series for Winx Club fairy’s, being aimed at the older fans of the Winx Club setting the age certificate at 15 and making the genre a darker fantasy. The show did produce a second season that followed in 2022, however in Nov 2022 it was announced that the series was canceled. It was speculated that it was the cost of the show that led to its cancellation.

Winx Club has expanded past TV and Film making sure they released multiple video games for their fandom to enjoy on; PC, PlayStation and Nintendo. Releasing Winx Club games of different genres like Dance Dance Revolution, Quest games, Rock Star games and more. The first game was produced by Powerhead Games and based on the first season of the animated TV series that debuted in 2004.

Winx Club franchise also produced toys for its fans over the years, with its first toy line produced by Mattel in 2004. The dolls included their own accessories including light-up wings (except Icy’s doll) that lit up when turned on, the dolls included a season 1 promo for the animated series. The toy line consisted of 7 characters from the show; Bloom, Stella, Flora, Musa, Tecna, Sky and Icy.

The new doll line that will be distributed by Playmates and Giochi Preziosi will be designed based on the new CGI-animated series coming next year to Netflix. The toy line will consist of fashion dolls, role play toys, accessories and playsets, all inspired by our favourite magical fairy girl’s.

Winx Club has certainly kept up with its content and merchandise for its fandom and we are not disappointed, Winx Club celebrated its twentieth birthday this Jan and is celebrating again with this new exciting era for the Winx Club franchise. The creator of the magical Italian fairy, Iginio Straffi had the following comment on this next step for his creation:

“The Winx are returning stronger than ever, and I am grateful to collaborate with Netflix once again, the ideal partner to bring any IP to global audiences. It’s a thrill to work with our long-time friends and partners Giochi Preziosi and Playmates, and to create the best Winx toys ever for all our fans. I am also very excited that the collaboration with these esteemed partners will ensure a bright future for a powerful Winx comeback both on screen and at retail.”

Valeria Gulli, International Marketing Manager at Rainbow Studios made the following comment on the new CGI-animated series for Winx Club added the following:

“The series will be created for original fans to enjoy while also giving new fans a chance to discover the world of Winx. Most importantly, the new series will stay true to certain themes that made the original series popular among viewers. As such, fans can expect to see the same multi-cultural, diverse set of powerful women leading the action in high fashion. We recently realized that the boys and girls from 20 years ago are still fans of Winx today. We realized this is the moment to not only concentrate on young girls but also this audience of 20 to 25-year-olds.”

What is the new season all about? Rainbow Studios commented “We will rediscover the journey of Bloom, a teenage girl from Earth who finds out she is a fairy with extraordinary powers. As she enrols in the Alfea College for Fairies, Bloom will form the Winx Club with her new friends, embarking on fairy adventures across magical dimensions. Let’s get ready to fly.”
