THE BOYS Will End With Season 5

Showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that the fifth season will be the last.

Just a couple of days before The Boys returns with its fourth season, Prime Video has confirmed that the following season, which was greenlit a few weeks ago, will be its last.

Reviews for the new set of episodes started to pour in today, and showrunner Eric Kripke took to “X” to announce that he will be following through on his play to have a full five-season arc.

“The Boys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”

His post follows some comments from earlier this month where he’d hinted at the possibility of doing more than five seasons like he’d previously stated. He told Empire Magazine (via Screen Rant):

“No-one in history has ever been more wrong than me about how many seasons a show should go. You can’t build a show that’s about these two forces of Homelander and Butcher slowly closing in on each other without bringing that to a head. Whenever that last episode occurs, I know what happens.”

The Boys

Whether he was being “cagey” with that statement as he described it today, or perhaps was seriously considering going beyond five seasons, we don’t know. But judging from the reviews that have come out so far, it seems like there will be a lot of appetite for more from The Boys.

Regardless of that, Prime Video officially has two spin-offs in the works. Gen V, set in an in-universe supe college, was renewed for a second season last year. The creators are currently prepping it, as they try to figure out to work through the death of one of its stars, Chance Perdomo.

In addition, The Boys: Mexico is also in the pipeline, though it’s apparently moving slower than initially anticipated.

No production timeline has been given for The Boys season 5, but if they have the green light from Prime Video, we assume it will be ready to get in front of the cameras before the end of the year.
