New cast members for the upcoming feature include Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Michael Cimino (Love, Victor, Motorheads), Ji-young Yoo (Expats, Smoking Tigers), and Odessa A’zion (Sitting In Bars With). The identities of their roles have not yet been revealed. Shazam! and Annabelle: Creation filmmaker David F. Sandberg is directing the project.

UNTIL DAWN LIVE-ACTION MOVIE ADDS SEVERAL NEW ACTORS TO THE ENSEMBLE CAST

Speaking on the news, PlayStation Productions and PlayStation Studios Head at Sony Interactive Entertainment, Asad Qizilbash stated to Deadline, “At PlayStation Productions, we are always looking to find creative and authentic ways to adapt our beloved games that our fans will enjoy.” He continues, “Alongside Screen Gems, we’ve assembled a fantastic cast of new characters that builds upon our already stellar filmmaking team and their vision for the adaptation. We’re excited to reveal more about the movie soon.”

While the logline is being kept secret for now, the adaptation is being described as an R-rated film and a “terrifying love letter” to the horror genre, featuring an ensemble cast. Sandberg directs from a script written by Gary Dauberman. Blair Butler wrote the previous draft.

The 2015 horror video game was developed by Supermassive Games. It followed eight friends trapped in a remote mountain retreat. They soon discover they are not alone and must face their fears if they want to survive the night intact.

It definitely appears to be a new era for film and TV projects based on video games. Live-action series based on The Last of Us and Fallout have done very well and were quickly renewed for second seasons. The Sonic the Hedgehog live-action franchise saw the launch of the Knuckles limited series earlier this year, and the third theatrical installment will be hitting theaters later this December.

Besides a new upcoming season of The Last of Us, PlayStation Productions is also working on a live-action streaming series based on the God of War franchise for Prime Video. The Twisted Metal live-action series that streamed on Peacock was also renewed for a second season.

The Gran Turismo movie from Sony Pictures drew very mixed reviews, but it brought in $122 million worldwide off of a $60 million budget. Not all of the results have been outstanding, but they’ve been better compared to the previous attempts at video game-based projects from the 1990s and 2000s.

It should be interesting to see how this turns out, noting the horror subject matter. The game itself is already very cinematic and looks like it would be easier to translate into an actual live-action horror movie. The Until Dawn video game also featured a notable cast, with such actors as Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, Brett Dalton, and more.

Until Dawn does not yet have an official release date. A newly remastered version of the, rebuilt and enhanced for PlayStation 5 consoles and PC, is due out later this year.
