At this year’s D23 Expo, fans of the Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game were treated to an array of thrilling announcements during the “Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game: Past, Present, Future — Presented by Ravensburger” panel. With key insights into the future of Disney Lorcana, panelists Ryan Miller (Brand Manager & Game Designer), Steve Warner (Game Designer), Brent Strong (Executive Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering), Shane Hartley (Executive Art Director), and Richelle Brady (Global Community & Engagement Manager) shared a wealth of exciting news that left the audience eagerly anticipating what’s to come.
Disney Lorcana by the Numbers
The panel kicked off with impressive statistics highlighting the success of Disney Lorcana since its launch. The game has sold over 1 billion cards, with more than 400,000 downloads of the companion app. The global community has flourished, with over 15,000 active members on Discord and Twitch, 172,000 participants across social platforms, and more than 100,000 players regularly engaging in events. The game has received tremendous support from over 5,000 local game stores worldwide, hosting more than 76,000 organized play events, drawing in over 700,000 event entries.
New Set, Glimmers Sailing the High Seas, and What’s Beyond the Horizon
One of the most anticipated announcements was the reveal of the next Disney Lorcana TCG set, set to release in November 2024. This sixth set will take players on an adventure across the high seas with classic Disney characters reimagined as pirates. Fans were excited to see card reveals featuring beloved characters such as Daisy Duck – Pirate Captain, Minnie Mouse – Pirate Outlook, Goofy – Expert Shipwright, Mickey Mouse – Pirate Captain, and Donald Duck – First Mate. Additionally, for the first time, characters from The Rescue Rangers will be featured in the game, adding a nostalgic touch to the new set.

The panel didn’t stop with the 2024 announcements. Looking further into the future, it was revealed that The Black Cauldron would be added to the game in 2025, followed by Pocahontas in 2026. Fans were also thrilled to learn that work with Pixar has begun, with plans to introduce their beloved franchises to Disney Lorcana starting in 2026, though specific titles have yet to be named.
New Organized Play Category and Challenge Updates
Disney Lorcana Quest, a new organized play category focused on social play, was announced for 2025. This program is designed for fans who enjoy a more casual and cooperative gaming experience. It will include activities centered around Disney Lorcana fandom, with rewards for personal goals and creative expression. The program will be supported by events ranging from in-store activities to major events, with previews at each Championship event.
For competitive players, the panel revealed exciting details about the Disney Lorcana Challenge circuit. The European Championship is set to take place at Disneyland Paris Resort in December 2024, while the North American Championship will be held at Disneyland Resort in California in January 2025. The World Championship will follow in 2025 at Walt Disney World Resort. Prizes for the winners include exclusive cards such as the Gold Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor card, with only 500 copies available for the North American and European Championships, and a unique 1/1 Gold Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor Champion card for the World Championship winner.

Competitors still have chances to qualify for these prestigious events, with upcoming Challenge events in Toronto, Las Vegas, Seattle, Birmingham (UK), and more. Attendees at the Championships will also have the opportunity to participate in a Last Chance Qualifier for a final shot at entering the main event.
