Cain Velasquez gave us a grand opening and a grand closing.
WWE and Cain Velasquez’s stint is over, reports Dave Metzler of the Wrestling Observer. The separation comes in the midst of an extensive company-wide lay-off due to the effects of the COVID-19 virus.
During a recording of Wrestling Observer Radio, Metzler explained that Velasquez was released, along with 33 other superstars, due to cutbacks.
Farewell To Cain Velasquez
Below is Metzler’s quote provided by Cultaholic.com:
“Well, released, yeah. They haven’t used him since Saudi Arabia. He was on a giant contract so, yeah, that’s pretty much it. It was a multi-year deal and it was like everybody else they signed to a giant deal, and then now that they are cutting back, one of the things in those deals is they have the right to cut people. So, people who thought that they signed multi-year contracts for high dollar figures, this is how it goes.”
The ex-UFC heavyweight champion was hired 6 months ago as a spoil to ex-WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. Despite the duo having real-life heat for each other, the wrestling rivalry never gained the momentum the company was hoping for since Velasquez and Lesnar only faced-off in exactly one match at WWE Crown Jewel.
Neither WWE nor Velasquez have officially confirmed the separation at the time of this writing. Would you be sad to see him go? Let us know in the comments below.
