Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

The new trailer also confirmed that the game will be arriving next year, exclusively on PlayStation 5. You can check out the newly revealed trailer below:

DEATH STRANDING 2 TRAILER RAISES MORE QUESTIONS

This trailer reveals a lot of information, but in doing so, it opens even more questions surrounding the world of Death Stranding. This new trailer opens with a shot of a new character with the special guest likeness of Mad Max director George Miller, performed by Marty Rhone.

Alongside Fragile (Léa Seydoux), they open a Chrysalis to find a new mysterious woman covered in tar. She has tentacle-like suckers along her arm, which continues the unsettling tentacle imagery we saw in the first teaser trailer. We get some details about the tar having enough amino acids to create new life, so we’ll have to wait and see just how these new ideas get implemented.

The secondary guest appearance from this trailer is given to Turkish-German filmmaker Fatih Akin for his likeness in the design of a small puppet that hangs from Sam’s waist. He moves at a lower frame rate, and his appearance changes according to mood. Johnathan Roumie performs him, and he seems like a freaky little companion for Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus).

More interesting, however, is how much puppetry imagery is in the trailer. Every title card has strings (or “strands” for lack of a better term), and Elle Fanning’s mysterious character appears to have translucent strings attached to her for a split second.

Later in this trailer, we get the full reveal of Higgs (Troy Baker) unmasked after finding his way out of the beach. He shows up with a guitar that can shoot lightning out as he shreds. He knows more than he’s letting on in his dialogue with Sam and truly sounds sinister as he swaggers around the frame while referencing Talking Heads. He vaguely speaks about Lou’s death, which leads us to the biggest question of the trailer.

In the reveal trailer, we saw Fragile (Léa Seydoux) and Lou get attacked, and a mysterious shadow, Bridge Baby, took Lou’s place in the portable pod. This trailer reveals that Lou died, but it’s implied that we still don’t know everything about Lou’s origin. The main thrust of the narrative seems to be Sam’s fall into despair and rise back up to porting, where Lou’s involvement in his mental state is still unknown, but it is all connected.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach still feels completely out of reach in terms of understanding what could possibly transpire in this sequel, but Kojima productions keep us on our toes in anticipation with every single one of these peculiar images.

I didn’t even mention Fragile’s new synthetic hand scarf that works as a mask and a cigarette lighter! The wait for this game’s 2025 release seems arduous, but if the original Death Stranding taught us anything, it’s that this new installment will be well worth the wait.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is currently in the works for PlayStation 5. Players can also add the game to their wishlist on the PS5 Game Hub to stay tuned for more information.
