THE WALKING DEAD: A QUICK HISTORY OF “RICHONNE”

As previously stated above, the pair first met in Season 3 when Michonne appeared at the prison fence where Rick and his group were currently living. Rick is grieving the death of his wife, who died two episodes prior after giving birth.

In the third season, Rick and Michonne have a complicated allyship. There was a situation where Michonne was being hunted by the Governor, which led to Rick almost giving up Michonne as a peace treaty. By the end of the season, they both make their amends. They both have great respect for each other and they both balance each other out when it comes to their weaknesses.

Whenever Rick needed someone to fall back on, Michonne was always there, and vice versa. They both find solace with one another, especially when Rick steps into a new leadership role at Alexandria, a walled community that was originally led by Deanna and Reg Monroe. Two seasons after meeting and working together, they finally make their relationship official in season 6. This felt like a perfect moment for the characters as Michonne became close to Rick’s children, Carl and Judith. Even Carl was happy and accepted their relationship since he saw how happy his father was with Michonne.

By season 9, the two are co-leaders of Alexandria and they have shared motivation to build a sustainable community and to honor Carl, who passed away in the previous season, which was a troubling time for the both of them. Even with losing Carl, they are both trying to build a better future. They plan to have a baby together.

In an unexpected turn of events, Rick blows up a bridge to protect the community from a walker herd. His body is never recovered but viewers notice that he is being whisked away by a CRM helicopter. Years later, Michonne doesn’t give up hope in finding Rick and the moment she is about to give up on the search, she finds some clues that show that he is alive.
