The Walking Dead ran for 11 seasons, airing 177 episodes in total. The hit AMC horror series is an adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic book of the same name. In the wake of The Walking Dead’s conclusion, several spinoffs were born. These include The Walking Dead: Dead City, Rick & Michonne, and Daryl Dixon, starring Norman Reedus.
THE WALKING DEAD: DARYL DIXON GOES TO EUROPE
Daryl Dixon has been filming since October 2022 in Europe, specifically France. In The Walking Dead: World Beyond, France was teased as the possible origin of the zombie virus. If Daryl and the rest of the group want to find out why this nightmare began, and why the Walkers are evolving, the answer may be in France.
The Illuminerdi has learned from our sources that Daryl Dixon is planning to continue filming through February 2023. Additionally, some photography will take place in Ireland in addition to France.
Furthermore, we can exclusively reveal that the working title of Daryl Dixon is “Pilgrim”. What that means exactly is anyone’s guess. It could be a reference to Daryl’s “pilgrimage” to Europe. If a pilgrim is someone who embarks on a religious journey, what would that make Daryl? What is truly sacred in the world of The Walking Dead?
THE WALKING DEAD: DARYL DIXON GOES ON A PILGRIMAGE
Daryl Dixon is an original character created for The Walking Dead TV series, who does not appear in the comics. He was created specially for Norman Reedus to portray, after the creative team was extremely impressed with his audition.
Over the series run, Daryl evolved from a rough, gritty redneck into a hero bound by virtue, honor, and an unbreakable dedication to his friends and family. He considers Rick Grimes to be a brother, and has become a father figure to his son. He is identified by his signature crossbow, although he consistently used an AR-15 machine gun towards the end of the series. He was abused by his father and was forced to raise himself. Dixon had a complicated relationship with his brother Merle before he died. Daryl both looked up to Merle and despised him for his many flaws and shortcomings.
Daryl has appeared in more episodes of The Walking Dead than any other character, with performances in 148 episodes. Norman Reedus has an intense passion for his most iconic character. He once went on the record to state that he could play Daryl Dixon forever, given the opportunity.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR DARYL DIXON?
If Daryl Dixon is successful, he may just get his wish. In recent years, the general public interest in The Walking Dead has seriously waned. Could prestigious spinoffs like this reignite audience investment? And if that happens, could Norman Reedus star in the Daryl spinoff for multiple seasons, or is a finite ending planned for the show?
Melissa McBride was originally going to costar in Daryl Dixon, reprising her beloved role as Carol Peletier. Unfortunately, relocating to Europe for filming of the show was “logistically untenable” for her, so she dropped out. If this new spinoff proves to be popular enough for a multi-season renewal, perhaps the relationship between Daryl and Carol could be explored after Season 1.
Daryl Dixon is still a mysterious upcoming installment in The Walking Dead Universe, with many secrets yet to be unveiled. As principal photography continues on the new show, we will learn more and more.
