A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS STARTS PRODUCTION IN BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND
Production for the show officially commenced earlier this week in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It will depict two unlikely heroes, Ser Duncan the Tall (Claffey), and his diminutive squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). The show is set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne of Westeros, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory. For Duncan and Egg, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these two highly improbable and incomparable friends.
Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO also confirmed additional cast members for the upcoming series. They include Finn Bennett as Aeron Targaryen, the current king of Westeros, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen. They join the cast alongside Claffey and Sol Ansell.
Additionally, Adina Smith will direct three of the show’s slated six episodes. As previously noted, director and executive producer Owen Harris will also direct three episodes of the series. George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker are writing and executive producing the series. It’s also being executive-produced by Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight joins House of the Dragon as the latest spinoff of the Game of Thrones television franchise. Season 2 of House of the Dragon debuted last Sunday (June 16) on HBO. Season 2 will also consist of eight episodes.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is set about eighty-nine years before the events of Game of Thrones, acting as a prequel to the original series. The show is currently shooting now and is expected to debut later in 2025. The show will air on HBO and later stream on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max service.
