Don’t say we didn’t warn you, but a Nova project is on its way to the MCU.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially back into the swing of releasing blockbuster projects thanks to the Disney+ premiere of WandaVision over the weekend, which is already making waves across the comic book movie fandom. This will kick off 2021 for Marvel Studios, who will finish the year with ten new entries to the already expansive blockbuster series.

Even while Marvel Studios is absolutely loaded with projects in the next few years alone, the team is always planning years in advance for its future. The only projects confirmed for later than 2022 right now are James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 and Jon Watts’ Fantastic Four, but anyone who’s followed the MCU over the years knows that Kevin Feige and his team have so much more already churning.
Marvel Going Super… Nova
Rumors have pointed to some specifics on these later projects, and we here at The Illuminerdi reported on Nova back in May. Obviously, we love being right as often as we can, especially when it comes to learning what Marvel will be bringing to its fans in Phase 4 and beyond. Thankfully, our exclusive was just confirmed to be true by the man behind the MCU himself!
In an interview with ComicBook.com‘s Brandon Davis on the Phase Zero podcast, Marvel head Kevin Feige confirmed that Marvel Studios is developing an unknown project including Nova from Marvel Comics. While he didn’t clarify if it would be Richard Rider or Sam Alexander, Feige had this to say on Nova’s eventual arrival in the MCU:
“Timing is relative, right? I think I’d been talking about Doctor Strange eight years before that movie came out. So, ‘immediate potential’ is relative. But clearly, we are not shying away from the cosmic end of storytelling right in the sweet spot of the Nova Corps and Nova himself.”
Feige was of course coy on any details pertaining to this project, but it’s exciting enough knowing that Nova will be coming to the MCU at some point in the future. There are no confirmations as to whether it will center around Richard Rider or Sam Alexander, or even if it will be a movie or a mini-series releasing on Disney+.
Given the 25 or so active projects in development at Marvel Studios, Feige is right to be cautious about specifying when anything related to Nova would come into fruition. And with so much already packed into Phase 4, it wouldn’t even be a surprise if we had to wait it out until Phase 5 to see a real story behind the Corps come to life. But at the same time, Guardians of the Galaxy set the scene if they wanted to jump on it sooner,
With the hype surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, there will likely be some Nova teases laid out in properties in that and perhaps even Thor: Love and Thunder. While it may be a couple years until these teases come to fruition, fans should be thrilled that Nova will finally take his rightful place in the cosmic realm of the MCU.
Are you excited to see either Richard Rider or Sam Alexander join the MCU, and perhaps learn some more about the Corps? Or have you already become overwhelmed by all the new adventures Marvel is throwing our way?
