Captain Marvel 2 is now The Marvels, and we couldn’t be more excited.
May 3, 2021 may not have been an officially planned as a big one for Marvel Studios, but the team behind the MCU certainly found a way to make it a memorable one nonetheless. In a three-minute-long video released early in the morning, substantial hype was built up as Marvel celebrated the franchise’s past while teasing at least something new for more than half a dozen projects.

Included in this was new footage from both Black Widow and Shang Chi-and the Legend of the Ten Rings, along with the very first short footage from Eternals, all coming in by the end of 2021. Additionally, release dates were confirmed for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023) and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023), the second of which also received a shiny new logo.
The Marvels: Titles On The Way
Two 2022 sequels also got their official titles, one of which being Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, paying tribute to the loss of Chadwick Boseman. Brie Larson’s second solo outing also got its title changed from Captain Marvel 2, and it’s already teasing quite the exciting outing.
In the Marvel YouTube video “Marvel Studios Celebrates the Movies,” the team behind the MCU officially announced that the Captain Marvel sequel has been retitled The Marvels.
While The Marvels may be a simple title, it makes a great deal of sense considering what was reported at Disney Investor’s Day. Brie Larson’s titular hero will be joined by Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau from WandaVision along with Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan from Ms. Marvel, at least two of them having the word “Marvel” in their superhero name.
It’s also potentially exciting seeing the “S” in the title almost seem to stretch into frame, which could be teasing Kamala’s stretchy powers fully coming into play in the MCU.
The Marvels title card is identical to that of its predecessor, but it’s clear that Marvel Studios is upping their game with this Phase 4 sequel. This will be a particularly exciting movie considering two of its starring actors both originated in Disney+ shows.
While Monica Rambeau may have been introduced in 2019’s Captain Marvel, she was only 11 years old and didn’t see a ton of screen time. WandaVision changed that in a big way by showcasing her superhero origin story as she fought alongside the titular characters, teasing her incredible power level going forward.
As for Kamala Khan, while fans have only seen a couple seconds of her, Iman Villain is already becoming one of the most anticipated new faces in the MCU. With how popular the character has been in the comics and other media the past few years, this franchise seems to be in for something big with the young hero’s first film appearance.
The Marvels is set to release in theaters on November 11, 2022.
