Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge adds Master Splinter to the playable character list!

When Dotemu announced that they were bringing us Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge last year, Turtle fans across the world lost their mind. And who can blame us? The TMNT holds a place in history for having some of the most iconic games in the early eras of gaming. The Nintendo Entertainment System game is still one of the hardest games to beat -stupid dam level- and the arcade games will forever hold a place in the hearts of those who were part of the original arcade movement. Then there’s my favorite game of all time, Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time.

Since Turtles in Time, the TMNT have failed to reach the bar they set for themselves in the video game world. After a no-show on N64, there were 3 games on the Gamecube based on the 2003 Series, a moie based on the 4th film, and some other games that attempted to incorporate online multi-player, but nothing that really wowed the audience. There was a Smash Bros.-like game on Wii that was fun and a remake of Turtles in Time on XBox Live that were close but not quite great. But Dotemu looks like they’re ready to not only reach the bar Turtles in Time set, but rise above it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Master Splinter Reveal

Shredder’s Revenge adds Master Splint to its roster of playable characters! Not only is the game giving players options outside of the original four turtles, it looks like each character will have movesets and abilities unique to each player. Something that the original arcade beat’em ups didn’t do to a wide degree and that every subsequent game since never mastered. That, combined with the flawless animation and incredible inclusion of TMNT lore from first animated-series promises hours of fun and multiple play throughs.

I have beaten Turtles in Time on SNES well over 1000 times. Replay value is important in beat’em games. This is the first TMNT game since that I actually think I will replay. The amount of lore that floods every scene from the trailers and reveals of Shredder’s Revenge is full of nostalgia and hope. The excitement each new video and screenshot brings nothing but pure joy. It looks to be compelling action series all our adolescent minds thought we were watching instead of the hilarious and goofy cartoon it actually was. Add that it is obvious the developers, Tribute Games, understand the genre, and you have the most anticipated Turtle game of the millenium so far.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is set to release sometime in 2022 on Steam. Nintendo Switch, Playsation 4,and Xbox One.

Professional Nerd | Amateur Human | Creative/Content Director The best way to describe Kevin Fenix is the kid you never tell what the buttons do in video games so you have a chance to win. Being 6’ 4” and Asian, he never really fit in, so he got comfortable standing out. Not only is it easy to find him in crowds, he dabbles in the culinary arts, does a little stand up and improv, and can honestly say Spider-Man is the Jesus-like influence of his life. Kevin Fenix loves dogs, movies, television, comics, comedy, and to shoot people… with video.
