One of the breakout stars of Taika Waititi’s MCU space adventure Thor: Ragnarok turned out to be Waititi himself. Korg, the self-proclaimed pile of rocks for which Waititi provided both the voice and motion-capture, became an instant fan favorite with his fun-loving personality and incredibly dry sense of humor. The New Zealand-based director inserted his native Kiwi accent and impeccable improvisation skills into the character, using his performance to turn the lovable alien warrior into his breakout role.

Waititi Shares Korg Secrets
In an Instagram live commentary last night while watching Thor: Ragnarok, Waititi shed some light on his plans for Korg in the upcoming sequel.
We do touch on Korg’s culture [and] where he’s from. If you look in the comics about Kronans, it’s an interesting thing about where they come from.
This is an exciting revelation from the film’s director, knowing we will dig deep into a character than fans worldwide have come to love. The Kronan species was very briefly explored in Thor: The Dark World, although the only one shown simply killed an enemy and roared at Thor before Thor turned him into a literal pile of rocks at the end of the movie’s first battle.

Korg, on the other hand, has very quickly become an integral part of the MCU’s cosmic lore. Fans have wanted more of the the God of Thunder’s hilarious friend since he arrived in 2017 and it will be exciting to delve deeper into his backstory and learn more about both who he is and where he came from. The Kronan species has become so much more interesting after Waititi brought Korg to life, and the exploration of their species should add a new dimension to the next movie in Thor’s journeys throughout the galaxy.
After Disney’s schedule reshuffle, Thor: Love of Thunder has been pushed to a new release date on February 18, 2022, but the excitement continues to build as fans wait to see Waititi in action again.
