One of the newest characters of the mega-franchise will make his debut in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, set to debut in theaters on May 7, 2021 after the release delays from Disney and Marvel Studios. Thanks to a new exclusive from FandomWire, new details on the film’s cast and plot have been revealed, and we’re here to share them with you!

The exclusive first reveals that Awkwafina’s previously undisclosed role is Fah Lo Suee. While the character has been Shang-Chi’s sister in the comics, it seems that the movie will be repurposing her as not only a love interest for Shang-Chi, but also the daughter of the film’s main villain the Mandarin.

Speaking of the Mandarin, he appears to be a very important part Shang-Chi’s life even before they end up as adversaries according to the plot details. Shang-Chi in the film will seemingly be raised in a very special orphanage for people with superpowers and special abilities that are trained to be fighters, and this orphanage will be run by the Mandarin.

One of Shang-Chi’s powers from the comics is his ability to make clones of himself and it seems that the movie will have that power portrayed in a similar way. The only difference is that he will only use the clones of himself when he’s fighting, which could obviously come in handy to an evil super villain like the Mandarin.

When they run into each other in Shang-Chi’s adult life, the Mandarin offers him a chance at power and money by winning an epic, magical tournament that kids in the orphanage train their whole lives to compete in. The winner of this tournament receives the legendary Ten Rings as the grand prize, which the Mandarin would clearly want, since his own fighting days are most likely behind him in this film.

This is obviously an exciting possibility for this new film, which has been almost completely under wraps ever since it was announced as a part of Phase 4’s lineup at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. After Marvel’s schedule change to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, this film will be the MCU’s next summer blockbuster in 2021.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Awkwafina as Fah Lo Suee, Tony Leung as the Mandarin, Ronnie Chieng, Michelle Yeah, Rosalind Chao, and Florian Munteanu. The film is set for release on May 7, 2021.
