A new wall-crawler will be making his way to the Playstation 5 when Spider-Man: Miles Morales hits the shelves this holiday season.
In a surprise announcement during Sony’s The Future of Gaming live-stream presentation today, it was revealed that the beloved Spider-Man PS4 title is getting its sequel. The follow-up is going to be headlined by Miles Morales. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is going to be a launch title for the PS5, continuing Miles story thread from its predecessor, Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Who is Miles Morales?
Miles Morales is an Afro-Latino teenager who becomes his own iteration of Spider-Man. In the comics, he rises as a protector of New York City after Peter Parker’s death. He shares a lot of the same abilities as the original Spider-Man, though one unique ability is his ability to camouflage.
Miles Morales rose to greater prominence after the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in the winter of 2018. In Sony’s animated feature, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, Miles origin is explored as he also teams up with Peter Parker and a multitude of other Spider-People from a vast network of dimensions.
In PS4’s Spider-Man, Miles volunteers at Aunt May’s homeless shelter and befriends Peter, later getting infected by a genetically modified spider from Norman Osborn’s penthouse. At the end of the game, both Miles and Peter reveal their powers to one another and Peter takes Miles under his wing.
What will Spider-Man: Miles Morales be about?
We can all expect this follow-up to further elaborate on the open-world navigation, combat, and customization that enamored fans from the previous installment. With Miles as the focal point, the game is sure to focus on him likely taking the mantle of Spider-Man from Peter. Also the first game left the story of the Osborn’s pretty wide open, so a Green Goblin appearance may be in store for gamers.
