Is Rocksteady Developing A ‘Suicide Squad Kills The Justice League’ Ps5 and X-Box Game?

There's new evidence that Rocksteady, the studio who brought us the Batman Arkham series, is developing a Suicide Squad game.

According to Euro Gamer, there is some evidence that Rocksteady, the studio who brought us the Batman Arkham series, is developing a Suicide Squad game. We reported on the development of another Batman Arkham game earlier this year and it looks like there’s finally some movement.

Rocksteady has developed four titles with the Batman IP to critical acclaim, and financial success selling over 13 million copies within the last decade. However, Batman: Arkham VR, which immersed players into the world of Gotham, was met with lukewarm reception. Either players were getting tired of the repetitive gameplay and tedious storyline, or virtual reality is still not an appealing form of gameplay. It seems that it was time to change up the formula.

There were rumors that Rocksteady was developing a Superman adventure, which is fair considering the last Superman game to hit consoles was back in 2006. Apparently, WB has no interest in serving their Superman fanbase either on the big screen, or on console, since they allegedly passed on the project. What WB Games wanted was another Batman title, and it looks like their request was answered courtesy of the Suicide Squad.

A few domain names leaked on Restera, which quickly captured the attention of DC fans who connected the source to be from WB Games.

“SuicideSquadKillTheJusticeLeague.com” – is a contender for the game’s final title, and a good summation of what you can expect Rocksteady’s next big project to be about. Other domains registered include “SuicideSquadGame.com” and “GothamKnightsGame.com” – Tom Phillips, EuroGamer

It’s not uncommon for studios to purchase domain names early on in a project’s development. The reservation is not indicative that a project will be ultimately released. However, with DC’s Fandome Event in place for August, we can speculate that WB Games will be announcing their upcoming slate, and any domains reserved will be part of that announcement.

While Suicide Squad Kills The Justice League sounds like a setup for a traditional fighting game, it would be quite interesting if this were an actual adventure game, the type that Rocksteady has made its name for. I’m not too sure WB Games would want to go in such a potentially ultra-violent direction, but WB’s DCEU division is already going the R-rated route with their James Gunn sequel. Perhaps these two divisions will embrace the darkness and brutality of their comic companion.

NEXT GEN CONSOLE DEVELOPMENT

We can speculate that any game entering development at this time will be getting the PS5/XBox Series X treatment. Since the Suicide Squad game is in its early stages, don’t expect to see anything more than a brief announcement during DC’s Fandome Event. It would also be very surprising if we get a look at the gameplay by next year’s E3 event, but perhaps it will be fast tracked to coincide with the theatrical release of The Suicide Squad.

With the meteoric rise of Harley Quinn over the past several years there’s an assumption that she will be featured, if not the main playable character in the game. Deadshot would be another shoe-in, but who else do you think will make the cut? Would this be an all hands on deck situation, or just a set amount of characters? Let us know what you think about the potential development of the Suicide Squad game and who you want to see in the game in the comments below.
