Despite film productions being shut down, director James Gunn is confident that neither The Suicide Squad nor Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be affected.

The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will arrive on time come hell or high water, according to James Gunn.

Production has been shut down for movies and television series around the world as have release dates for movies that were planned to be in theaters anytime soon. With many television shows having to halt productions, this has meant shortened seasons or an indefinite hiatus until the next episode. The productions being put on hold has had a major impact on Hollywood with many people out of work for the foreseeable future.

The stay at home orders mean that movie theaters are definitely hurting from their need to shut down during this unprecedented time. While it seems like most of Hollywood has needed to shut down, two upcoming action-packed comic book films may not be impacted by the delays from the ongoing pandemic.

James Gunn Calms Comic Fan Fears

While at home, James Gunn has been taking the time to interact with his fans. Gunn gave behind the scenes information and answered questions during a Guardians of the Galaxy virtual watch party. The director also took the time to answer a few questions about his upcoming projects The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, as many fans have been curious about if the production delays will be affecting these comic book blockbusters.

James Gunn, however, seems confident that both comic based films won’t be delayed because of the ongoing pandemic. The Suicide Squad had already wrapped production before the pandemic caused the shut downs. And Gunn says that they are remotely editing The Suicide Squad now.

While post-production is underway for The Suicide Squad that doesn’t mean we’ll be getting a peak at it anytime soon. While fans are eagerly awaiting to see what Gunn will be doing with the property it looks like the wait will be a little bit longer. The Suicide Squad, as of now, is set to hit theaters August 6, 2021.

Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy will have an even longer wait until they get any kind of look at the third installment. Marvel Phase 4 has been pushed back by months starting with Black Widow moving from a May to November release date. Guardians does not yet have a release date and it hasn’t even begun pre-production yet.

Marvel’s schedule is pretty well set through 2022, so we won’t be seeing this sequel in the next couple of years. Fans may be disappointed to have to wait, but honestly we should be happy that James Gunn will be involved with Guardians of the Galaxy 3 at all. It will be interesting to see what these characters get up to next especially with Gamora missing. Fans are curious about what we will be seeing in the next installment. There is still a lot to learn about many of the Guardians and while we may know the origin story of Quill and Gamora many of the Guardians are still a mystery.

During the Guardians of the Galaxy watch party a fan asked if the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 3 would be focusing on Rocket’s origin. Gunn doesn’t give a clear yes or no, but he does say that he has had a plan for Rocket all along and that the raccoon is a big part of Guardians of the Galaxy’s future. Could we be getting more of Rocket’s backstory in the third installment?

While at this time it looks like The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 are on track that doesn’t mean things can’t change depending on what happens in the future. Gunn made it a point to correct any notions that he said otherwise.

The situation right now is still fluid. Things are changing constantly and it doesn’t seem like productions will be restarting in the near future. While at this time Gunn seems confident that his upcoming DC and Marvel movies are on track, it doesn’t mean that won’t change. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
