In recent months, there have been multiple rumors that Solo would eventually see its successor in the form of a number of spin-off series on Disney+. However, a new report suggests that Solo may actually be getting a sequel, from a certain point of view.
Continuing the Story
Star Wars Unity claims that a series serving as a sequel to Solo is at the works at Lucasfilm. This is not a movie made for Disney+ but rather miniseries that would continue Han, Chewie, Lando, and Qi’ra’s respective stories. Previously it sounded like if Solo were to have a second life it would be in series that focused on more young Lando adventures or Qi’ra, Maul, and Crimson Dawn. At this point, it sounds like all those rumors are part of this singular project.
If the series is a success, Star Wars Unity goes on to report that Lucasfilm could look into a Donald Glover Lando series down the road. Solo’s popularity has grown since it has been made accessible on streaming. Just like the #SaveCloneWars movement from the fans ultimately got a final season of Clone Wars made, it seems the #MakeSolo2Happen contingent may have pulled a similar result.
“Solo? Not So Fast”, says Ron Howard
On Wednesday, Ron Howard, who directed Solo, was a guest on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show and had this to say about a potential sequel:
Well, there’s no sequel planned now. It’s amazing to be a part of a Star Wars movie that seems to be a kind of underground hit, which is not what you’d expect, but that’s been an odd, strange journey for that movie.”
Ron Howard, Radio Andy Interview July 29th 2020
Howard could be playing mum, considering nothing has been officially announced or he may not even be involved with the project. This wouldn’t be the first time a creator has been a detractor to a potential project, later to be proven wrong.
