The Mysterious Ranger Is Revealed In Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn #2: Review

The second issue of the Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn miniseries is finally here and it answers some questions left on the table from the first.

The issue starts off with the Ranger Slayer and her team trying to release the mysterious ranger from his metal suit that he has been trapped in since Drakkon took over the Coinless world.

When they get the suit off of the individual it is revealed to be none other than Jason, who was believed to be dead in this world.

The friendly reunion is cut short as Jason and Kimberly have a difference in opinion on how they should handle the incoming threat of Eclipta. Jason thinks that they should regain the power of the Power Coins to bring back the Power Rangers to defeat Eclipta. Kimberly, on the other hand, knows that if they do that it will strip the power from the sentries thus losing access to their army.

Jason storms off after this disagreement and Kimberly lets him go, knowing that they have more important things to worry about as they go to take on Eclipta.

The Ranger Slayer Takes On Eclipta in Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn Issue #2

Kimberly’s army is having quite the tough time taking on Eclipta as she is much more powerful than any normal monster, however, they are eventually able to catch her off guard and get the upper hand on her.

Later, Adam goes to attack Eclipta, however, when he goes for the attack his sentry powers disappear and he is killed by Eclipta. Knowing that there is nothing they can do for him Kim’s team is forced to retreat.

The issue ends with the reveal that Jason has retrieved his Power Coin (and probably the others) saying it’s time for the Power Rangers to return.

Overall this issue was kind of all over the place. It seems like the writers are trying to cram as much as they can into this miniseries which will only run for three issues.

The romantic tension between Adam and Scorpina was interesting until they decided to kill him off only a couple of pages later. I also can’t seem to figure out if Jason is supposed to be a hero or someone we’re supposed to hate in this series.

While yes, he was imprisoned by Drakkon for 10 years and he retrieved the Power Coins, but in doing so he basically got Adam killed so I am interested to see how the characters react to this in the final issue.
