The Rise of Ultraman Issue #1 Review

If you thought Kyle Higgins (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) was done with the Tokusatsu genre then think again as Higgins returns with The Rise of Ultraman issue 1 published by Marvel Comics!

The comic is a reimagining of the classic Tokusatsu show that takes Ultraman to the next level in the modern-day.

As someone who hasn’t really gotten into Ultraman until this point, I thought this was a really good first issue for the series. I think feel the Higgins was able to please older fans of the franchise while also being able to bring in newer fans like myself and have us still be able to understand what’s going on within this universe.

I am also really loving the dynamic between the main characters in this series. The main character Shin Hayata is someone who flunked his test to join the United Science Patrol. This makes him somewhat jealous of his friend Kiki who was able to get into the force.

Shin often crashes in on some of the USP’s missions which irritate Captain Muramatsu of the USP.

Overall this was definitely a slow but decent start the to the mini-series. This issue leaves you wanting more which I feel was by design so I can not wait to see what Higgins and crew has in store for us in the future!
