The heat is picking up during the production of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and we have some new news that could reshape our expectations for the show.

Marvel Studios is gearing up to introduce an absolutely massive slate of films and Disney+ shows that will finally start premiering by the end of 2020. Filming has also restarted on many of these projects that were incomplete before the pandemic shutdown, and there is finally some kind of light at the end of the tunnel for when Phase 4 explodes onto the scene in the near future.

One of the shows Marvel has fans most looking forward to is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+, which will continue the story of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in a post-Avengers: Endgame world. This series already has more than a solid foundation thanks to so many previous MCU appearances by the show’s two leading men, and the new show is also set to bring the return of more than a handful of established MCU veterans.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Promises Surprise Cameos

Heroes and villains such as Sharon Carter, Batroc the Leaper, Helmut Zemo and more will see their stories evolve over the course of this six-episode mini-series as Sam and Bucky travel the world, learning how to navigate through the chaos after Steve Rogers’ retirement. News has even just arrived that these returns could be far from the only old MCU characters in this series thanks to a quote from one of the show’s writers.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Sebastian Stan

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier writer Derek Kolstad wasn’t able to reveal too much about his newest project, but he promised that MCU fans can look forward to the return of some very familiar faces from the franchise’s past. Kolstad gave this quote teasing what could potentially come in the series next year:

What I will say is that there are characters from the earliest Marvel movies that are coming back. We’re layering them in and reinventing them in a way that’s gonna shift the storytelling structure. It’s f***ing awesome.

This could be an absolutely huge reveal for where The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will go over the course of its six episodes, with the potential to revisit some of the MCU’s past from as early as Phase 1. The real mystery that remains is who exactly will be brought back as Sam and Bucky fight evil all over the world.

There are plenty of past MCU faces with some notable connections to both heroes and the rest of the confirmed cast already. In just the Captain America lore, there could be a return of computerized Arnim Zola, who can never be counted out after his appearance via computer banks in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. There are also rumors that the show will look deeper into the super-soldier serum, which could open the door for somebody like Emil Blonsky’s Abomination to wreak some havoc for the first time since 2008.

This quote could also open the door for other villains such as Justin Hammer, Sonny Burch or even the Abomination to cause the new super tandem some real problems in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. No matter what the details turn out to be, fans should expect some incredible returns in this new mini-series to add that much more depth to the MCU.
