Sylvester Stallone is ready to join the Squad.
Once the DC Extended Universe gets going with its new slate of films, there are more than a handful of exciting projects that should get the franchise back on track after incredibly mixed reactions to the first eight films. This will start off as early as Christmas 2020, with Patty Jenkins’ highly anticipated sequel Wonder Woman 1984, bringing back Gal Gadot and Chris Pine among a few other new stars, and it will be followed by James Gunn making his mark in the DCEU with 2021’s The Suicide Squad.
Gunn’s success with Marvel Studios caught the eye of Warner Bros. executives, especially after he was initially fired from the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the MCU, and he is now helming one of the most exciting new movies of the DCEU’s future. Bringing back stars from the first movie like Margot Robbie and Joel Kinnaman, along with introducing new faces such as Idris Elba, Gunn is looking to breathe new life into the DCEU with this reboot/sequel centered around DC’s most notable anti-heroes and villains.

The cast of this movie just expanded even more too, with an unexpected but incredibly cool new actor confirming his involvement with The Suicide Squad.
Sylvester Stallone Shares Some DCEU Secrets
In a new video on his Instagram account, veteran movie star Sylvester Stallone announced that he will be a part of the cast of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in the DCEU. Stallone gave these quotes in regard to this new venture, although his role hasn’t been revealed yet:
“Good morning everyone, it’s Saturday and I’m on my way over to do a little work with a great director, James Gunn, on Suicide Squad 2, and I think it’s gonna be a spectacular effort. I saw it and it’s unbelievable. So, I’m very proud to be included and I can’t tell you anything more about it because you’re going to have to wait and see that, but it’s going to be well worth the wait.
Anyway, keep punching, and see you in the movies.”
Gunn confirmed the casting later on his own Instagram account with this quote:
Always love working with my friend Stallone & our work today on “The Suicide Squad” was no exception. Despite Sly being an iconic movie star, most people still don’t have any idea what an amazing actor this guy is.
No matter what role Sylvester Stallone takes on in this new DCEU team-up up movie, it adds yet another level incredible talent to an already all-star loaded cast. This will also mark the second superhero film on which Gunn and Stallone have worked together after Stallone took on the role of Stakar Ogord in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 in the MCU, with the potential of a return in the third film which will start filming next year.
The timing of this announcement is also interesting considering Gunn is currently quarantining in preparation to shoot Peacemaker for HBO Max, and fans are already curious as to what exactly he will be filming since the majority of The Suicide Squad has finished filming already. Now it turns into a game of wait-and-see as more details work themselves out, but this film is looking to be one of the most massive adventures the DCEU has ever put forth.
