Ranger Thanksgiving Special: Food in Power Rangers

Power Rangers SPD – Buttery Toast

Although this was a brief segment, all fans of SPD will remember Bridge’s inability to say buttery without miming with his hands. This is seen in the very beginning of episode 5 of Power Rangers SPD and has been an iconic moment in Ranger history. Although it’s simply Toast with butter, joke about the phase and sign “Buttery” enough times, and it’s likely you will crave it.

Power Rangers HyperForce – Burritos

There are many memorable moments in HyperForce and various lines that have become iconic, but Chloe was the Pink Ranger that loves her food. Played by Meghan Camarena, the use of food was always an obsession of HyperForce Pink but nothing compared to her favorite food, Burritos. Burritos made a common appearance in the show as Chloe would stash them anywhere she could. As a result, HyperForce has a big connection to Burritos and even a special limited run HyperForce “Burrito Time” T-shirt was released in the past.

Power Rangers Beast Morphers – Carrots

Even the most recent show, Power Rangers Beast Morphers has a featured food. When Zoey became the Yellow Ranger, some of the Evox viruses caused a glitch with the Jackrabbit DNA infused into her. This meant that she needed to eat carrots to stop her crashing and suddenly losing energy. Ironically, carrots are the rabbit equivalent of junk food, or nature’s candy, since eating too much can cause a rabbit to suffer from problems such as obesity and tooth decay.

Other Food Outside of Power Rangers

Power Rangers is not the only show that showcased food. Other Tokusatsu shows have also had some featured in different seasons. Kamen Rider is a good example as there have been specific shows that had a primary delicacy throughout the series. This includes Donuts in Kamen Rider Wizard, Fruit-based curry in Kamen Rider Gaim, and even Takoyaki in Kamen Rider Ghost.

There are various foods within Power Rangers, but there are also products outside of the franchise. Alyson Kiperman Sullivan, our Yellow Wild Force Ranger, has created her own range of mustards that are available to purchase in specific stores and on Sullivan’s website. Alyson has talked about her own business during her episode on our Power Rangers Watch-Along series. If you wish to learn more about her products and listen to her stories about being on Wild Force then check out episode 3.

With all these different foods appearing in the shows, fans have said they desired the opportunity to try them, and it’s surprising that these venues haven’t been brought to life yet. Especially since fans have always wanted these iconic restaurants to appear at any Power Morphicon. With Power Rangers Dino Fury announced for next year, it will be interesting to see if they add another food for the spotlight or even a new Restaurant to the Power Rangers map.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
