The Illuminerdi recently reported the news that Matt Smith is being strongly considered to star as Prince Daemon Targaryen in the upcoming HBO Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, that focuses on the Targaryen family dynasty. We now can report when in 2021 the series will roll cameras.

House of the Dragons is set to begin filming outside London at Leavesden Studios, where many WarnerMedia properties shoot such as Matt Reeves’ The Batman, in April of 2021. It has already been announced that the first season will consist of ten episodes. The only cast member confirmed to be attached is Paddy Considine as King Viserys I Targaryen.

The logline for the House of the Dragon series is as follows:

The prequel series finds the Targaryen dynasty at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires—real and imagined—crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins almost 193 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when King Viserys Targaryen breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm.

House of Dragon

With an April start date, it seems the goal is to have the series ready for HBO and HBO Max subscribers by mid 2022. Are you excited for House of the Dragon?
