During the Disney investor’s stream today, we learned some new exciting details about the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, most especially the news of Hayden Christensen’s return to a galaxy far, far away!
Earlier this year, we at The Illuminerdi speculated what Anakin’s role in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series could be, and whether Christensen could return to it – and now it is official! Kathleen Kennedy herself told investors, press, and fans alike watching the Disney Investor’s Day stream that Hayden Christensen will be reprising his role of Darth Vader in the Disney+ series.

Kennedy said it would be the “rematch of the century.” Sounds like we’re getting a major confrontation between master and apprentice.
Hayden Christensen Returns For Round Two
Vader and Obi-Wan crossing paths in the series would bring new weight to lines such as “Obi-Wan once thought as you did” in Return of the Jedi or “We meet again at last” in A New Hope. Will the story of this series focus partly on Obi-Wan feeling that there is still good in Anakin, like Luke later feels, and that he can be turned, leading to their first confrontation since Mustafar? Time will tell!
In interview footage that was exclusive to investors, Deborah Chow, who will direct the series, said the miniseries starts from the premise: “Being a Jedi, it isn’t safe.” Ewan McGregor also says:
The most beautiful thing of all [about the series] is that it’s brought me back together with Hayden,”
It was also confirmed the series will take place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. No other casting was announced. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series will debut sometime in 2022.
