The Marvel Cinematic Universe is returning in less than a week with WandaVision, and the world is ready for every second of it.
This upcoming Friday, January 15, Marvel Studios will join the Disney+ streaming world for the first time as it releases the very first project in Phase 4 of the MCU, WandaVision. First introduced to the world nearly two years ago, this series faced a long wait for its arrival due to the worldwide pandemic, causing a nearly unprecedented 18-month gap in releases.
The promotional tour is going at 100 miles/hour as the cast and crew of this show discuss their experience bringing it to life and tease what the Marvel fandom should expect when the show arrives in full. While the series is still under wraps for most people in the world, there are a very select few for which that is not the case.
Thanks to the WandaVision press junket this weekend, select media outlets and personnel have watched the first three episodes of Marvel Studios’ first ever Disney+ series. Some of the reactions are straight ahead.
WandaVision Early Reactions

We at the Illuminerdi were incredibly fortunate to be included in this group of screeners, and here’s what we had to say:
“We just don’t know what to expect.” -Wanda Maximoff, #WandaVision

⁰“No we don’t, Wanda. No. We. Do. Not” -WandaVision audience.
⁰The new era of #Marvel TV is upon us, and everything you know and love is about to be turned upside down. Get ready for have your mind blown! #MCU pic.twitter.com/e1aaeax3yo
Germain Lussier of Gizmodo and Io9:
Watched the first 3 episodes of #WandaVision yesterday. It's weird & hilarious in ways Marvel has no right attempting, but they nail it anyway. Then it sprinkles in just enough mystery to keep you speculating and fascinated. I'm so excited to see how far it can go. pic.twitter.com/7PIFQiUNxF

Hoai-Tran Bui of Slashfilm:
WANDAVISION is a tantalizing experiment with shades of Lynch that is almost irritatingly dedicated to slowly playing out its mystery. (I wanted more!) But one surprise: It's funny! The jokes feel at home in the I LOVE LUCY/BEWITCHED-homaging world, Paul Bettany is a comedy star pic.twitter.com/ulKuupVgmH

The official Twitter page for DiscussingFilm:
The first 3 episodes of WANDAVISION are a fantastic creative spin on the sitcom format that makes way for a very intriguing season debut.
— DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) January 9, 2021
Truly new ground for Marvel with inventive filmmaking that makes each episode special. pic.twitter.com/pMe6uGUX3t
Social media personality Kevin McCarthy:
Saw the first 3 episodes of #WandaVision & fell madly in love with the style, tone & storytelling. A truly unique & interesting setting to see two extremely powerful superheroes. So much charm, danger & great easter eggs. Fantastic practical effects & aspect ratio shifts. Love. pic.twitter.com/MUD0qpZNQx

Our very own Joe Deckelmeier:
Expect the unexpected in #WandaVision. #MarvelStudios is changing the game with this genre-bending series! Every episode feels like a page turn of a comic book I didn’t want to put down. This is how you debut our first #DisneyPlus #MCU show. Welcome to the new era of the MCU! pic.twitter.com/8rSULQ4fZ6

Steven Weintraub of Collider:
Have seen the first 3 episodes of #Wandavision and *LOVE* how big of a swing @MarvelStudios is taking with the series. The reason the #MCU is king of the hill is @Kevfeige’s amazing leadership and willingness to take risks like what you'll see in 'Wandavision'. pic.twitter.com/EgUUUxXudh

Josh Wilding of ComicBookMovie:
#WandaVision is one of the craziest, cleverest things @MarvelStudios has done! The sitcoms are great, but it's the mystery behind those which will get everyone talking. #ElizabethOlsen is superb, and director #MattShakman puts himself on the map in a BIG way. @wandavision pic.twitter.com/JyBnOB2Kn5

Sean O’Connell of CinemaBlend:
Marvel has never done anything at all like #WandaVision and I am FLOORED by the show’s imagination, creativity and risks. Each episode BRILLIANTLY recreates a classic sitcom model, but also feeds into a much larger mystery with HUGE Marvel ramifications. I love this so much! pic.twitter.com/rPURhyqaCt

Erik Davis of Fandango:
I’ve watched THREE episodes of #WandaVision and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Truly unlike anything Marvel Studios has done — it’s light, funny & fully committed to its retro sitcom inspirations, but it also carefully sprinkles in enough mystery & intrigue to keep you guessing pic.twitter.com/8dqegsg5By
— Erik Davis (@ErikDavis) January 9, 2021
Nikki Novak of Fandango:
Watched the first 3 eps of #WandaVision (2X) & it is a jewel (um or stone). It is zany, precise, fresh, funny (cue laugh track) & counterintuitive. The bigger picture will be revealed (we only get glimpses so far that all isn't right in Westview) but I'm in no rush to leave town. pic.twitter.com/cyEkWkh1Ed
— Nikki Novak (@NikkiNovak) January 9, 2021
Mike Ryan of Uproxx:
It’s like WANDAVISION was specifically made for me. Each of the three episodes I saw fully captures (and rarely deviates) from the tone, humor and dialogue from a classic sitcom. Kathryn Hahn as the nosy neighbor is incredible.
— Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) January 9, 2021
Brandon Davis of ComicBook:
#WandaVision is truly unlike anything the MCU has put out before. I can’t emphasize that enough.
— BD (@BrandonDavisBD) January 9, 2021
It is a blast to watch. It is so committed to the sitcom structure of story telling that it feels like a bold risk – but it pays off and builds a mystery.
It is awesome. pic.twitter.com/NbGBsGLfmc

James Viscardi of ComicBook:
How #WandaVision approaches what we think is normal and what isn’t makes it an incredibly fun watch just three episodes in. I am impressed at how much it offers fans waiting for MCU content while still showing restraint.
— James Viscardi (@JimViscardi) January 9, 2021
Dorian Parks of Geeks of Color:
Watched 3 episodes of #WandaVision and the show is weird as hell (in a good way).
— Dorian Parks (@DorianParksnRec) January 9, 2021
Two things are clear. 1) Marvel is dedicated to parodying classic sitcoms and 2) the MCU is finally back!
Can’t wait to see how this show sets up Doctor Strange 2 and Spider-Man 3 👀 pic.twitter.com/nR6rTShfOY
And finally, yours truly, Richard Nebens of The Illuminerdi:
#WandaVision has everything. American sitcom history, a classic love story, comedy, superpowers, twists and turns, unpredictability, and it's embedded deeply in the MCU. I watched the first three episodes, and I'm already hooked. pic.twitter.com/JrCS2rocyI
— Richard "Deadpool" Nebens (@RichardNebens) January 9, 2021
Even with only three episodes out in the world, and even though it’s only been seen by a few, it appears that WandaVision is not only living up to the hype, but exceeding it. No spoilers have been revealed to the world yet, but it’s becoming certain that the show will be the hottest topic of the entertainment world for the next nine weeks or longer.

The first two episodes of WandaVision will begin streaming on Disney+ on January 15, 2021. Are you excited for the new show? Let us know in the comment section or over on our social media!
