The Spider-Verse may be getting its own Spot, if rumors are to be believed…

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has been regarded as one of the best superhero movies to come out by fans. At the time of the its release, it managed to beat both the MCU and DCEU out of the water with its box office performance – not to mention win an academy award for Best Animated Feature in 2019.

A sequel for Spider-Verse is in the works, but there is no official word on plot details or what other Spider-Men will be making an appearance.

Recently, however, a new rumor from Murphy’s Multiverse has claimed that one of the sequel’s key baddies will be the Spider-Man and Daredevil villain, The Spot.

Out, Damn Spot!

For those unfamiliar, Spot is an obscure choice for a villain as he has the ability to create portals and manipulate portals at any space which he uses to teleport himself or any part of his body at will. In Marvel Comics, he was known as Dr. Jonathan Ohnn, he was a scientist who was working with Kingpin to reproduce the teleporting ability of Cloak. One night he succeeded in creating a solid black circular portal, but the portal drains the power of the city grid causing a blackout, resulting in the portal to destabilize.

Seeing it as his one and only chance, Ohnn stepped into the portal and awaken floating weightlessly in a dimension. When he finds his way back to reality, he emerges from the portal with his body all covered with black spots from head to toe. Realizing the black spots were portals as well, he got the idea that he can defeat anyone in battle.

Spot can easily work with the story of Spider-Verse since in the comics he was already acquainted with Kingpin who was the villain of the first film. Sony probably would want to modified his origin so that it does not relate back to Cloak and Dagger. Knowing that his powers can teleport himself, he can be an excellent fit to add in some humor by using the film’s comic book style of him tricking Spider-Man by punching himself or someone else along with classic speech bubbles like KAPOW! In the background.

Spot definitely has the potential to be a challenging and fun enemy for Miles Morales or any Spider-Men that will come across him in what is sure to be another adventure in the multiverse. Through, Murphy’s Multiverse said in the report to take this rumor with a grain of salt for the time being as it has not been fully confirmed. Hopefully in no time we’ll get more news about the story and the router of which Spider-Men are making their debut in the Spider-Verse Sequel.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 is expected to hit theaters on October 7, 2022.
