Marvel is developing a Secret Wars project according to the original Secret Wars writer himself, Jim Shooter. Shooter has disclosed that Marvel approached him about acquiring the rights to a live-action adaptation of the famed comic storyline.
The writer recently made an appearance at the Megacon convention where he spoke at a panel. Someone asked him about the possibility of a Secret Wars film heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As he spoke about how a “clown” called offered him $10,000 to write a novelization of Secret Wars, Shooter revealed Marvel Studios attempted to secure the rights to the storyline.
Jim Shooter on Contract Offer For Secret Wars
“This one clown called me from Marvel,” Shooter said. “He wasn’t an editor, but some executive of property management which was a little odd. He asked me if I wanted to write a novelization of Secret Wars.” Shooter then claims he was sent a retroactive work-for-hire contract, which he ended up turning down. A follow-up call then came from a David Bogart, who wanted to apologize for the previous phone call.

The new retroactive offer was for $10,000, though Shooter initially declined since he was fully aware his previous contract was a work-for-hire. Shooter then stated Marvel didn’t have a piece of paper that said the company owned Beyonder, Titania, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man’s black symbiote costume, or any other Secret Wars characters. He added that Marvel didn’t have to retroactively pay him to use the characters, though Bogart insisted he “take the money dummy,” which he ended up doing.
“This means you’re making a movie, right?” Shooter asked. “I’m not allowed to tell you that,” Bogart reportedly replied. Shooter followed that up with, “Well, I think you just did.”

Now I don’t know about you, but this sounds like Avengers 5 to me or the ultimate Avengers movie to conclude a phase or saga. Many fans have been speculating about Secret Wars being the next Avengers installment after Endgame. It certainly seems like they’re heading this route with all these multiverse shenanigans going on with WandaVision, Loki, What…If?, Spider-man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, I honestly won’t be surprised.
