Becky Lynch reveals she almost had her return match at this year’s WrestleMania and reveals who it would have been against.

While at the O2 arena talkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy spoke with Becky Lynch and shared a tweet which confirmed that she was at one point set to face fellow Horsewoman Bayley at WrestleMania.

“Becky Lynch just told me she was originally good to go for WrestleMania and it was discussed she’d face Bayley. That didn’t happen (obviously) and then she was meant to return in October before WWE called her the week of SummerSlam. Pretty upset didn’t get Lynch v Bayley,” McCarthy said.

Sadly No Lynch Vs Bayley At WrestleMania

This match had some rumors circulating before WrestleMania that this was going to be Lynch’s return match.  Prior to this Lynch was out because of pregnancy and recovering from having her daughter.  However, it looks like she was ready and able to return earlier than we thought.

The match didn’t end up happening of course.  Lynch stayed at home, but Bayley had a few different appearances at WrestleMania.  Bayley had some segments with both Titus O’Neil and Hulk Hogan.  We don’t know why the Lynch and Bayley match didn’t happen.  It would have been a lot more entertaining than a segment with O’Neil or even Hogan.  Also what a great event to make your return.  The only better event would be during the Royal Rumble match.  That match is already so exciting and a surprise return just makes it that much better.

We haven’t seen much of Bayley lately.  The last time we’ve seen her wrestle was on the June 25 edition of SmackDown.

The Man Makes Her Big Return

Lynch did make her return months later at SummerSlam, but even that was a last minute change.  The rumor was that Lynch was going to be backstage at SummerSlam, but wouldn’t make her appearance until October for the draft.  They went as far to say it was crazy to think she would debut before October.

However, WWE called Becky Lynch the week of SummerSlam and asked her to make her big return that weekend. Bianca Belair was supposed to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks. However, Banks got pulled from the match and we still don’t know why. Carmella came to the ring to take Banks’ spot, but then Lynch’s music hit. Becky Lynch tossed Carmella out of the ring and Lynch had a squash match with Belair and beat her for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

It would appear her debut was pushed up because Banks wasn’t able to make the PPV, but that whole Banks being pulled is still a mystery.

Becky Lynch is set to defend her championship against Belair at the Extreme Rules PPV.  Hopefully this time it won’t be another squash match.

What would you have thought about Lynch vs Bayley for her return match? Do you think having Lynch return at SummerSlam was the best place or should it have happened at WrestleMania? Or should they have waited until the draft like they originally planned?  Is Belair a good first feud back for Lynch or would Bayley have been better?
