Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next theatrical adventure and according to the film’s new synopsis, it could be one of the craziest ones yet.
Phase 4 of the MCU has been diving deep into the Multiverse. After the events of WandaVision, Loki, What If…?, and Spider-Man No Way Home, the multiverse has been cracked wide open and it’s time for the former sorcerer supreme to take it head-on.
This film is, of course, the one that will set the tone for the multiverse in the MCU from this point forward. It’s literally in the title. With this new synopsis, it could potentially give fans some more clues as to what Doctor Strange will be dealing with in the film.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Offcial Synopsis
“In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before,” it reads. “Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.”
First off, the plot synopsis teased a mysterious new adversary for Strange. This new villain could be anybody from the evil version of Strange seen in the trailer or it could even be a massive villain such as Kang the Conqueror.

The synopsis also mentions Strange traveling throughout multiple different alternate realities. With rumors spreading around that the X-Men and other older Marvel acharacters could be appearing, this could be how Strange comes into contact with them. If the rumors are true, this film could very well go down as one of the biggest comic-book movies in the history of cinema.
It also mentions “mystical allies both old and new”. We know for sure that Doctor Strange will be teaming up with Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch. In the trailer, it teases Strange taking her in after the events of WandaVision.
One interesting this about this is the fact that the two haven’t technically met on camera yet. Both characters have appeared in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame; however, they never exchanged dialogue in the two films. So, is she being considered a new or old ally? It would be safe to say that two had to have talked off-camera at some point during the events of Endgame, so it’s probably more likely she is considered one of the new allies.
Another character that we know will be in the film is America Chavez, so she is without a doubt one of the new allies mentioned. Otherwise, a new ally could consist of one of the multiversal characters being rumored such as Professor X from the X-Men series of films. Only time will tell as we are only a few months away from the film’s release in theaters.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releases May 6, 2022, and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, and Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez.
