Samuel L Jackson just let the mother-lovin’ cat out of the Secret Invasion bag!
As the hype for Marvel’s Secret Invasion continues to build, so does the impressive cast list. In an interview with Happy Sad Confused podcast (via The Playlist), Jackson shared his excitement to work with his co-stars Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Ben Mendelsohn. But he didn’t stop there!

He then went on to add that Don Cheadle will be playing a part in the series as well.
Secret Invasion Welcomes War Machine
To quote him directly, Jackson declared:
“Don, Don Cheadle. I got Don, that’s my golf buddy. I didn’t realize it, but til we did this thing, I was like, ‘We’ve never worked together.’ We just kinda know each other, hang out and laugh… but we’d never worked together and we finally [got to work together].”
Two weeks ago, Instagram user @the_insta_phils captured a few set photos in London near Liverpool Station that gave us our first hint at War Machine’s arrival. One of those photos was of a newspaper article titled “President Ritson in London for Emergency Talks.” The image shows Don Cheadle, AKA, Colonel James Rhodes, shaking hands with a new actor that we haven’t seen before in the MCU…a man that we can presume will be playing the new American president in Secret Invasion. The subtext of the newspaper article reads:
“Ritson will arrive after the British Prime Minister brokered an emergency summit amid unprecedented tensions.”
The last time we saw War Machine was in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where he attended a ceremony that put Captain America’s shield in a museum (only to be taken out later by an increasingly shady government). There, he exchanged a few words with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) about the pressures of taking on the mantle of a hero. While he didn’t show up again in that series, we now know that he will be appearing in Secret Invasion in some capacity.

Further, it looks like he’s working with the MCU’s new president, similar to the way he worked for President Ellis in Iron-Man 3.
Jackson’s comments seem to indicate that Cheadle may have a big role in the upcoming show, not just a quick cameo. And this could mean that Marvel Studios might have a massive twist up their sleeve…
COULD JAMES RHODES BE REVEALED AS A SKRULL IMPOSTER?
In the comics, Secret Invasion was all about shattered trusts and paranoia amongst the superhero community. The story revolved around the shapeshifting Skrulls invading Earth and taking on the appearance of many of our favorite heroes, making it impossible to know who to trust. The show is set to follow in those same footsteps, and without spoilers, there will probably be several key characters who might be revealed to be Skrull imposters. Could one of those be Rhodey?
On the surface, it would make a lot of sense. If the Skrulls are trying to infiltrate positions of power on planet Earth, it would make perfect sense for them to go after the president’s ironclad bodyguard. This would be a huge twist that would rock the MCU and add some very intriguing drama. When could he have been abducted? How long has he been a Skrull? In the comics, many of the sleeper Skrulls didn’t even know what they were until the invasion began, which meant that any one of them could be a Skrull without knowing it.
However, for those of you fearing that Rhodey might die in Secret Invasion, that does seem improbable since he’s got his own Armor Wars series coming up on Disney+.
Still, keep your eyes open for any one of this amazing cast to be a Skrull traitor. They could be anywhere…
