Karen Gillan Expresses Interest In A Disney+ Nebula Series

In an interview with ScreenRant, Karen Gillan has talked about how it would be "really cool" for Nebula to have a Disney+-related series.

Actress Karen Gillan has expressed interest in taking Nebula’s backstory to television in a recent interview with ScreenRant for her latest movie, Dual.

Dual was directed by Riley Stearns and co-stars Aaron Paul and Theo James alongside Karen Gillan.

With Marvel utilizing Disney+ as a vehicle to develop their supporting characters and give them a chance to shine, with series such as WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and Hawkeye fully taking advantage of their characters to deepen them out, Gillan would find it “really cool” for Nebula to get the same Disney+ treatment.

As Karen Gillan explained in the interview:

“I don’t know, I guess Marvel will have to say yes. So, if you want to get them to do that? That would be great. But I think I think Nebula has a really interesting backstory, so that would be really cool to learn more about.”

A Nebula TV show would definitely be interesting if Marvel Studios has the right material (and creatives) to support it. Karen Gillan has already made her TV debut as the character, albeit in animated form, in the TV series What If…? and will appear later this year as Nebula in Thor: Love and Thunder, and on Disney+ in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 in May 2023.

James Gunn has successfully spun off The Suicide Squad with the excellent Peacemaker (which has a second season underway), but could Gunn executive produce a Nebula TV series? With the expansive world that Guardians of the Galaxy has opened for Marvel, the possibilities are truly endless. Disney+ not only allows Marvel Studios to expand their shared universe (heck, they could even do original films of lesser-known properties on the platform), but is a great vehicle for the studio to become more daring in their structure and aesthetic footprints, doing something that wouldn’t otherwise be possible if the MCU limited themselves to strictly feature films.

We could get a Nebula & Thanos spinoff, which honestly would rule since it would showcase The Mad Titan at his prime before the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, or a solo Nebula TV series set after the events of Vol. 3 and The Holiday Special. Regardless of what happens, it’s certainly an exciting element for us to think about, while Moon Knight is airing, and shows like Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Secret Invasion will arrive on our screens very soon.

It’s unclear whether or not if Gillan will be in the second season of What If…?, but her next few projects are all aforementioned MCU-related. She was last seen in Judd Apatow’s The Bubble, which co-starred Peter Serafinowicz, Benedict Cumberbatch, and James McAvoy, who all appeared in Marvel-related titles. Her last film, Gunpowder Milkshake, also starred two MCU actresses in Angela Bassett and Michelle Yeoh.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

What do you think? Would Karen Gillans starring in a Nebula-related Disney+ spinoff be a good idea? Or should Marvel explore other characters with their Disney+ title? A Thanos spinoff perhaps? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to continue the discussion on Twitter!
