The Boys share new character photos from the upcoming third season.
It should come as no surprise, that The Illuminerdi are huge fans of The Boys. Whether it be the comic, the main series, Diabolical, or the other upcoming spin-offs, we will share it with you as soon as we find out. But before that, for those who aren’t familiar, The Boys is a live-action drama series on Prime Video that takes a unique perspective on superheroes. Rather than focusing on their heroics, it focuses on their celebrity status and global influence, as well as the follies that often come with such power. It’s a truly unique approach to the superhero genre and an eerily uncanny reflection of the corruption in the real world.

Months ago, Prime Video released the photo of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, who will be joining the cast in Season 3. Fans of Ackles and Supernatural were ecstatic to see what is sure to be a grueling doppelganger of ultra-patriotic heroes, like Captain America. We also got to see a bit of him in the Red Band Trailer. Today, Prime Video has released more photos featuring most of the returning cast and characters as well as what appears to be a new still that features The Boys, minus Hughie, in jumpsuits.
While the images are cool and akin to trading cards, most of the characters look the same. Starlight is in her original costume, and there appear no upgrades or drastic changes to the costumes of Homelander, A-Train, and Black Noir. Frenchie, Kimiko, and Mother’s Milke (MM) also are dressed in their usual fashion. Hughie on the other hand is looking dapper and professional in his business suit. Something that almost seems out of character for him from the previous seasons. This could potentially mean major changes for his character, which likely are attributed to the job he was applying for at the end of Season 2.

Then there’s this new still featuring Butcher, Frenchie, Kimiko, and MM. They are wearing matching jumpsuits and there appears to be a fairly organized desk in the background. Could this be The Boys going professional with their services? Getting them all to wear matching uniforms seems highly improbable, as does making their services readily available. Plus, with the trailer and teaser, we know Butcher gets a taste of Compound-V. Long story short, I have absolutely no idea what is going on in this still because there was no context at all given to me about these pictures. I just got a notification about “new pictures.”
So if anyone other fans of The Boys, or better detectives than I, can help decipher something from these new images, please do. Any and all theories are welcome. But if you want to wait for Season 3 to premiere on Prime Video on June 3, 2022, that’s also a great way to go. And if you want to catch up on the previous seasons, they are streaming on Prime Video, but they are also releasing on Blu-Ray with mind-blowing special features on May 31, 2022.
ABOUT THE BOYS
The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes—who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods—abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Intent on stopping the corrupt superheroes, The Boys, a group of vigilantes, continue their heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven and Vought—the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets. It’s the seemingly powerless against the super powerful.
Season Three of The Boys stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Jensen Ackles.
The Boys is based on The New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, who also serve as executive producers, and developed by executive producer and showrunner Eric Kripke. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Craig Rosenberg, Ken F. Levin, Jason Netter, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Meredith Glynn, and Michaela Starr also serve as executive producers. The Boys is produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios, with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures.
