The upcoming live-action series, Ahsoka, has been confirmed for a 2023 release on Disney+.
Ahsoka Tano debuted in The Clone Wars, the computer-animated series that ran from October 3, 2008 to May 4, 2020. She was the Jedi apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, and the two formed a close mentor-student bond. Ahsoka left the Jedi Order when they wrongfully accused her for a crime she did not commit.
Although originally intended to be exclusive to The Clone Wars, the character’s popularity warranted further appearances in the franchise, such as in Rebels, Forces of Destiny, and The Mandalorian. Her initial reception was less than positive, though this changed with her character development and relationship with Anakin. It also helped that she was one of the few female Jedi that have a prominent role, making her a character that female viewers can relate to.
The Return of the Padawan, Ahsoka
Ahsoka stars Rosario Dawson as the title character, reprising her role from The Mandalorian. Hayden Christensen additionally returns as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, having previously provided a vocal cameo in The Rise of Skywalker and also reprising the role for another Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Other cast members include Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Ivanna Sakhno, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Ray Stevenson.
Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are developers and executive producers of Ahsoka, with Filoni also being set to write and direct episodes. Peter Ramsey, whose directorial credits include Rise of the Guardians and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is also set to direct at least one episode.

On May 26, 2022, Filoni and Favreau promoted Ahsoka at Star Wars Celebration, complete with Dawson in full costume through video message from the set. She appeared in person two days later to promote The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett alongside Filoni, Favreau, and Bordizzo. Bordizzo is confirmed to play Sabine Wren, the Mandalorian demolitions expert.
Connections To The Mandalorian
As with Rangers of the New Republic and The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka ties into The Mandalorian, expanding on its characters and settings and building up to an impactful story event that could change everything. Ahsoka’s story will be told as a single, serialized story rather than episodic ones. Production began on May 9, 2022, with more information yet to be revealed as of writing.
Meanwhile, the third season of The Mandalorian is set for Christmas 2022, and Obi-Wan Kenobi has made its premiere on May 27.
