English-Spanish Actress Dafne Keen has been largely out of the spotlight since her role in the fan-favorite superhero drama film Logan. However, that is set to change. Last night, Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic with Jeff and John podcast revealed to his audience what is next for the young actress, revealing that Keen is being tapped to star in an undisclosed role in one of Star Wars most anticipated Disney+ outings, The Acolyte.
Keen has recently been seen portraying the character of Lyra Belacqua in the HBO fantasy drama His Dark Materials, though many still recognize her from her breakout role as Laura/X-23 in James Mangold’s Logan, which premiered in theaters in 2017, billed as Hugh Jackman’s final time portraying the character of James Logan Howlett, better known as the Wolverine.
Now, with the history of being a major ass kicker of multiple realities, exemplified by her role in His Dark Materials, Keen has been stated to be closing her deal to star as part of The Acolyte, a series many Star Wars fans are anticipating due to the concepts being teased by the show creator Leslye Headland. Headland states that the series will “take the audience into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic”, with the limited series taking place about one hundred years prior to the events portrayed within Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace.
Who Will Dafne Keen play in Star Wars: The Acolyte?
Star Wars is definitely unafraid to bring in characters from all over the galaxy, many with different faces and species to make the entire galaxy far, far, away a very diverse and interesting place to explore. However, without more details on the show’s current narrative, it’s hard to tell exactly who Keen will portray.
With the majority of Disney’s canon Star Wars stories that involve the High Republic era taking place almost five hundred-plus years prior to the chronological first film, not many characters are available to play. Yet, this just proves to excite even further, as this gives Headland and her team of writers and producers the ability to bring in new characters no Star Wars fan has ever met before, giving Keen the unique opportunity to leave her mark on the Star Wars canon. She might just join the ranks of Ewan McGregor and Mark Hamill in creating a brand-new and iconic character the fans can rally behind.
The Acolyte’s premise is definitely one to keep an eye on, too. With Headland promising a major return of the Dark Side of the Force in the show, it makes one ponder just who else we might get in the show. Maybe the origins of Sheev Palpatine (portrayed by Ian McDiarmid)? Perhaps the inclusion of other fan-favorite characters such as Darth Revan? It’s still too early to tell what the show has in store, but everything seems to be bringing back hope to a galaxy that definitely needs it.
With no set release date available for The Acolyte, fans will have to tie themselves over with the current streaming this Andor, which will be followed by Season 3 of The Mandalorian and Dave Filoni’s live-action spin-off Ahsoka, both set to premiere on Disney+ in 2023. The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg (Columbiana, The Hunger Games) and Lee Jung Jae (Squid Game). Remember to check back in with The Illuminerdi for more breaking news stories!
