Joy to the world because The Santa Clauses, the sequel series to Disney’s Christmas comedy franchise The Santa Clause, has been renewed for a second season! Disney+ made the official announcement on the show’s season two renewal this week.
After almost three decades as Santa Claus, Scott Calvin struggles to maintain the balance between work and family. Now approaching 65 years old, he starts losing his powers and becomes aware that he cannot be Santa forever. It is revealed that another clause, the Successor Clause, allows the current Santa to retire from the position once he finds and chooses a worthy successor. As Scott prepares his family for a new life in the normal world, he searches for someone to become the new Santa Claus.
THE SANTA CLAUSES IS THE GIFT THAT KEEPS GIVING
Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell reprise their roles as Scott Calvin and Carol Calvin respectively. Alongside them in the cast are Elizabeth Allen-Dick as Sandra, Devin Bright as Noel, Austin Kane as Cal, Matilda Lawler as Betty, Rupali Redd as Grace, and Kal Penn as Simon Choksi. Eric Lloyd and David Krumholtz guest star as Charlie and Bernard, reprising their roles from the original films.

Other guest stars for the show include Peyton Manning as himself, Casey Wilson as Sara (replacing Melissa King from the first film), and Jim O’Heir as Santa Claus XVII (replacing Steve Lucescu from the original film).
Although The Santa Clauses was set as a limited series, it has been renewed for another season. The characters and setting of The Santa Clause franchise saw significant developments within the first season alone. As much as Scott grew to love his position as Santa, he accepted that retirement was the best course of action.
Because his two sons Charlie and Cal have their own lives and desires, they are unable to take the opportunity to be the new Santa Claus. Scott initially chooses Simon Choski as his successor but reclaims the position when the latter tries to convert the North Pole into a fast-delivery service.
When working on the first film, one particular plot hole that has persisted throughout the franchise always bothered Tim Allen. He never understood why the previous Santa before Scott Calvin disappeared and the elves showed no concern about the former’s disappearance. The writers for The Santa Clauses worked closely with Allen to address and fix these problems.
It is revealed in the series that the previous Santa falling off the roof was no accident. As a child, Scott had met his predecessor and his generosity made him the ideal candidate for the position. Since the previous Santa had told the elves of his plan in advance, this also explains why they were not upset or surprised about Scott becoming the new Santa – they knew about his arrival.
Building on the lore behind the titular Santa Clauses, all of them were specifically tailored for Scott and his family. He was the first human Santa ever, with all of his predecessors having been magical beings. The elves chose a human to take on the role because humans have the adaptability to provide what is needed to maintain the magic of Christmas.

The increase of commercialism and reliance on fast-delivery businesses such as Amazon also undermine the Christmas spirit, with fewer children requesting presents from Santa resulting in the elves with a dwindling workflow.
The Santa Clauses premiered on November 16, 2022. It is currently streaming exclusively on Disney+. Are you planning to catch the second season of The Santa Clauses? What do you think will come next for the Calvin-Clauses? Who will fully become the new Santa? Let us know in the comments!
