Co-created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park will premiere its latest season throughout 2023 on Comedy Central, starting February 8!
South Park is an adult animated comedy centering on four boys (Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Kenny McCormick, Eric Cartman) living in the titular mountain town. Based on Parker and Stone’s life growing up in their home state of Colorado, the show had its beginnings as two short films (Jesus vs. Frosty and Jesus vs. Santa), collectively known as The Spirit of Christmas. Although Fox rejected the pitch for having a sentient stool character named Mr. Hankey, Comedy Central picked up the show. The pilot episode “Cartman Gets an Anal Probe” fared poorly with test audiences, but the Internet popularity of The Spirit of Christmas spurred Comedy Central to order more episodes.

The series has been a massive success, being one of Comedy Central’s highest-rated programs in the network’s history. The show has expanded into a multimedia franchise, which includes several video game adaptations, a theatrical animated feature, and a pinball machine. Witty and profane, South Park leaves no stone unturned in its brutally honest satire and social commentary, garnering praise and criticism alike. The show received numerous award nominations, winning several Emmys and even a Peabody Award.
About Last Year…
2022 was a busy year for Parker and Stone. Season 25 of the show ran from February 2, 2022, to July 13, 2022, consisting of six regular episodes and two Paramount+ specials. On August 10, Parker and Stone held a one-night concert celebrating the show’s 25th anniversary at the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre in Morisson, Colorado, with music by Primus and Ween. The concert aired as a special on Comedy Central on August 13, with Paramount+ following suit the very next day.
Outside of entertainment, Parker and Stone have been renovating the Mexican restaurant Casa Bonita, which featured in several episodes of South Park as well as in its 2017 RPG South Park: The Fractured but Whole.

Parker and Stone purchased the restaurant in 2021; as of November 2022, they officially own the restaurant and hired Dana Rodriguez as the new executive chef. On December 22, they announced the reopening for May 2023.
What’s Going on with South Park?
Parker and Stone’s deal with MTV Entertainment Studios, made in August 2021, has South Park renewed for Comedy Central through Season 30 in 2027. This includes 14 streaming specials exclusive to Paramount+, with four of them (South Park: Post-Covid, South Park: Post-Covid: The Return of Covid, South Park: The Streaming Wars, South Park: The Streaming Wars Part 2) currently available on the platform. The deal was valued at $900 million over the six years that the show continues to air.
South Park Studios confirmed Season 26 as well as the premiere date. The new episode will air on Wednesday, February 8, at 10 pm on Comedy Central. Exact details on the episode’s title and plot are to be announced, so stay tuned.
