The Force is strong today as three new Star Wars feature films have been announced. At Star Wars Celebration 2023, it was announced director James Mangold, famously known as the director of Logan, will direct Dawn of the Jedi era film. This new film expands the Star Wars timeline and will take place in an even longer time ago in the era before the Old Republic and focus on the first Jedi. The still-untitled film was announced when Lucasfilm revealed the new timeline of the Star Wars Cinematic Universe, in a similar fashion to how the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set up.

The reveal of the Star Wars Cinematic Universe timeline is exciting, especially knowing we will begin with the Dawn of the Jedi. Fans will get to see this fascinating era of Star Wars history, where the force is completely new and unknown and there are no dark or light sides. It is very exciting to see the continued expansion and evolution of the Star Wars Universe. The franchise has always been known for its rich mythology and world-building, and the Dawn of the Jedi era is sure to add even more depth to this already expansive universe. By exploring the origins of the Jedi, the movie will provide a unique perspective on the Force and the galaxy far, far away.

James Mangold is an accomplished director known for his work on films such as Logan and Ford v Ferrari, and his style and vision will no doubt do justice to the rich and complex story of the Dawn of the Jedi Era. He has proven to be adept at respecting the lore but also crafting something that works for everyone on the big screen. With Mangold at the helm, this new film could very well be a “biblical epic” that is a worthy origin about the emergence of the Force and the first Jedi.

While there is no news yet on the casting for the movie, it is likely that we will see entirely new characters, and maybe some from the comic books. The Dawn of the Jedi comic series introduced a number of compelling characters, including the Je’daii Rangers who would eventually become the Jedi Order. It will be interesting to see which of these characters will make it to the big screen, who will be playing them, or if we will get reinterpreted versions, or completely new characters entirely.

Of course, with any new Star Wars project, there is always a degree of uncertainty and speculation. Fans will no doubt be wondering if there is a unified vision or if they will change direction with each film. Plus there with an existing comic book, the question of whether or not this film will introduce any new elements to the canon is present. There is also the question of how the movie will fit into the larger Star Wars universe, and whether or not we will see any connections to the Skywalker Saga or other Star Wars properties.

Though being so far into the past, it likely will not be influenced by future eras, but be the source of influence for them.

Despite these questions, the announcement of a Dawn of the Jedi movie is cause for celebration among Star Wars fans. It promises to be a unique and exciting addition to the franchise, offering a fresh perspective on the mythology and history of the force and the Jedi. As we await more news on this exciting project, let us all take a moment to bask in the excitement and anticipation that comes with the announcement of a new Star Wars movie.
