Star Wars New Jedi Order Era

Daisy Ridley is campaigning for John Boyega’s return according to recent rumours for the upcoming Star Wars movie. The actor will be returning for her role as Rey Skywalker and has reportedly been sharing her desire for Boyega’s Finn to join her. The news Star Wars: New Jedi Order was one of the most highly anticipated announcements from Star Wars Celebration 2023. However, many fans are also hoping for a bigger role to be given to the iconic star of the latest trilogy.

Star Wars Celebration 2023 announced the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey for the Star Wars: New Jedi Order era. Daisy Ridley was a major focus of the story of the sequel trilogy which also starred John Boyega and Adam Driver. Ridley’s role as Rey led to the inheritance of the Jedi way as the baton was passed to the character by Luke Skywalker, played by the beloved Mark Hamill. John Boyega played an ex-Stormtrooper, Finn, since the start of the recent trilogy but was written to follow a different path during the next movie, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.

Ridley’s Rumoured Campaign for Boyega to be Part of Star Wars: New Jedi Order

Word of Daisy Ridley campaigning for Boyega’s return has spread among the fandom. There is currently no official confirmation regarding Boyega’s return, especially so early in the process and with so little of the new movie revealed. But fans have already begun to speculate on the possible storyline for Finn and Rey, with consideration of the relationship they appeared to be building in the first movie.

Boyega has previously spoken about his mixed experience during his time with the franchise, including vocalizing his disappointment with the direction taken with his character. This includes the underdevelopment of Finn’s character arc in the sequel movies and the untapped potential that fans have noticed in the releases, his romantic teases between various characters, segregation from Rey and Poe in the story, his Stormtrooper background, and ignoring his Jedi potential.

So John Boyega’s return and fulfilling his potential would be a major victory for the franchise. Many fans were disappointed with Finn’s story as the character seemed side-lined rather than continuing the climb that began in the first movie. Ridley is 100% right for calling for his return as not only did Finn use Luke’s Lightsaber in the first movie, but he was also revealed to be force sensitive. No matter the reason for the choices made, there is so much potential remaining for Finn and it would make complete sense for Boyega to return and for Finn to be trained as a Jedi in Rey’s new Jedi Order.

Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie has much to be revealed, including the synopsis and exact release date. As the film is still years away from the release year given at Celebration 2023, there will undoubtedly be numerous updates as production progresses. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with announcements as they are made and discovered.

Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
