Sony Pictures Entertainment unveiled the first trailer this week for the upcoming big-screen, epic period drama, Napoleon. The film stars Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix as the iconic French leader-turned-Emperor. You can check out the newly released trailer for the new film below:

NAPOLEON: SONY PICTURES LAUNCH FIRST OFFICIAL TRAILER

The new film comes from legendary award-winning director Ridley Scott. The spectacle-filled action epic will detail the rise and fall of the real-life French leader, general, and emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. Featuring large-scale filmmaking, Scott will capture Bonaparte’s journey to power through his addictive, volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine, his visionary military and political tactics, and what Sony is promising are some of the most dynamic practical battle scenes ever filmed.

Based on the trailer, this looks to be a large-scale epic about the real-life historic military leader and ruler. It looks like filmmaker Ridley Scott spared no expense in bringing his vision of the historical figure to life.

In addition to the trailer, Sony Pictures has also released the first official poster image for the film, which you can also view below:

Joaquin Phoenix looks like he was perfectly cast in the role, and this looks like the perfect type of role for him to sink his teeth into before returning to his iconic, award-winning role of Arthur Fleck, aka The Joker. He reprises the role in Joker: Folie à Deux, due out on Oct. 4, 2024. Todd Phillips is once again directing the film, which will also introduce Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.

The battle sequences in Napoleon look like they will be huge and immense. One battle scene, in particular, was already shown earlier this year at CinemaCon in April, and it looked impressive.

Additionally, while Apple Productions is producing the film, Sony Pictures made a distribution deal with April, so the film will receive a wide theatrical release. That means many audiences will have the chance to see it for the first time on the big screen, and it looks like the big screen is the best way to experience and watch this film for the very first time.

Scott is directing the feature from a script by David Scarpa (The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Man in the High Castle). It also stars Vanessa Kirby as Empress Josephine, Ludivine Sagnier as Theresa Cabarrus, Ben Miles as Colancourt, and Catherine Walker as Marie-Antoinette.

Scott and Phoenix are also producing the film along with Kevin J. Walsh, and Mark Huffman. Raymond Kirk, Aidan Elliott, and Michael Pruss are serving as executive producers of the project. Napoleon arrives in theaters just before Thanksgiving day on Nov. 22. Audiences will also have the chance to experience it in IMAX.
