The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with many mighty heroes. We’ve been introduced to Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Panther, Star-Lord, etc. One of the best characters that has been quietly introduced in the MCU is Howard the Duck. The character was first introduced in 2014 in Guardians of the Galaxy. He was in a display case in the Collector’s lair.
Over the years, the character has been seen in all three Guardians of the Galaxy films and was part of the epic battle in Avengers: Endgame. It looks like the character will be making his appearance again in the MCU.
HOWARD THE DUCK IN WHAT IF…? SEASON 2
According to Can We Get Some Toast on X, they tweeted about an episode that was created to be included in the third season of the Disney+ series. The episode is called What If… Nebula Joined the Nova Corps? In this episode, Nebula will be joining the Nova Corps and other characters that will be joining her are Korg, Miek, Nova Prime, Yon-Rogg, and Howard the Duck. Check out the official tweet below:
Not only was Howard the Duck’s MCU appearance leaked but the episode titles for What If…? Season 2 have also been revealed by the same X user. The episodes titled are as follows:
- Episode 201: What if… Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?
- Episode 202: What if… Peter Quill Attacked Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?
- Episode 203: What if… Kahhori Reshaped the World?
- Episode 204: What if… Hela found the Ten Rings?
- Episode 205: What if… Iron Man Crashed into the Grandmaster?
- Episode 206: What if… Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?
- Episode 208: What if… Captain Carter Fought the Hydra Stomper?
- Episode 209: What if… The Avengers Assembled in 1602?
- Episode 210: What if… Strange Supreme intervened?
According to the X user, the release order of the episodes is subject to change so these episodes’ order may change as we get closer to release.
EVERYTHING WE KNOW SO FAR ABOUT WHAT IF…? SEASON 2
The first season of What If…? was released in 2021. The series is based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name. The animated anthology looked at the alternate timeline in the multiverse that would happen if specific moments in the MCU occurred differently.
Jeffrey Wright voices The Watcher while many actors from the MCU reprise their roles including Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Natalie Portman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Hayley Atwell, Chris Hemsworth, Michael B. Jordan, Jeremy Renner, Michael Douglas, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd and many others.

Season 2 of What If…? was first announced on Disney+ Day on November 12, 2021. By the time we reached San Diego Comic-Con 2022, it was announced the new season will arrive on the popular streaming platform in early 2023. That release window was shifted and it is now set to premiere around Christmas Day.
During the animation panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, it was reported that the trailer featured a number of familiar characters like Captain Carter and an older Bucky Barnes who is now the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Other characters that are set to be included are T’Challa, the Red Guardian, and Thanos.
While not much has been said about the official premise of the series, according to the show’s head writer A.C. Bradley, there are going to be more stories, new heroes, and a lot of things from Phase Four will be introduced in the new season.
“The fun of What If…? is that we get to explore the entire infinite multiverse, so we try to bounce around as much as we can. I want to play with all these characters, and as much as I love Captain Carter, we’ve got to share the love. I’m very excited to show new worlds, new heroes.”

It’s always great to see more of Howard the Duck having fun in the MCU. However, his past appearances have mostly been cameos or slightly extended cameos so far. Hopefully, his next appearance is a little more substantial. The new series will arrive later this year exclusively on Disney+.
