Bianca Belair Talks About Why Winning The NXT Women’s Championship Is So Important

NXT Superstar Bianca Belair talks about what the Women's Championship means to her.

Bianca Belair explains why she thinks winning the NXT Women’s Championship was so important to Becky Lynch and wanting to do it herself.

Lynch is The Man in WWE, both literally and figuratively.  She has won every championship there is to win for women.  That was except for one, the NXT Women’s Championship.

Lynch decided to rectify that particular void on her resume in Septemeber.  She challenged then champion Tiffany Stratton and Lynch walked out as champion.  Thus she finally won every women’s championship in WWE.

On a recent episode of The Wrestling Classic, Belair talked about her reaction to seeing Lynch win the NXT Women’s Championship.

“When I saw Becky in NXT and then she got the title, I was like, ‘Oh, wait,’ because she never got the title when she was in NXT and so I was like very happy for her,” Belair said. “I was like, ‘You go and get that title’ because we all know that, especially because when you start in NXT, that’s where you’re trying to prove yourself.” H/T To Wrestling Inc. Lynch Showed The Women Where The Bar Is Set

Lynch was not champion for very long.  She only held the championship for 42 days.  Lyra Valkyria challenged and defeated Lynched for the championship.  However, while returning to NXT, Lynch set the bar for the women in NXT.  She showed them what it takes to be champion and the level they have to compete at if they want to be a threat on the main roster.

Belair talked why winning the NXT Women’s Championship is so important to the women who pass through NXT.

“That’s [NXT] where the grind is like real and you’re trying to show like I belong here and that’s like the foundation of everything,” Belair said. “So to leave NXT without the title, even though you go and, you know, I was able to, like Becky main-evented WrestleMania, I’ve main-evented WrestleMania. I’ve been three-time champion, I’ve done historic matches on the main roster.

It’s still in the back of your mind, where you’re just like, but I never got that back then. Because for me, that NXT title was like validation for me when I was in NXT and I never understood like, ‘Why can’t I accomplish this and get this title because if I can’t do this here, how can I do things on the main roster?'”

Bianca Belair Did A Lot In NXT, But Winning Gold Was Not One Of Them

Belair spent four years in NXT.  She had big matches against some of the top women on the brand at the time including Rhea Ripley, Shayna Baszler, and IYO SKY.  She was always a big force in NXT but was never able to win the gold.

However, since moving up to the main roster Belair took all the lessons she learned in NXT and used them to great effect.  Since moving up to the main roster she has become a three-time women’s champion and won the Women’s Royal Rumble.  She is one of the most dangerous women on the WWE roster.  Her athleticism and strength make her a problem for anyone who is in the ring with her.

Belair went on to talk about how seeing Lynch win the NXT Women’s Championship makes her consider following in her footsteps. She is considering going down to NXT and winning the championship she was never able to win for herself.

“So when I saw her get that title I was like I know that was like a check mark for her. And even though she’s gone to do like great things, that was always like something she wanted to check off her list,” Belair said. “I’m like, ‘You know what, I can feel her’ because I feel the same way. So yes I can see like one day trying to go and mark that off of my accomplishments list because I was never able to do that.”

If Bianca Belair goes to NXT she won’t be the only main roster Superstar in the brand.  Baron Corbin will challenge Ilja Dragunov for the NXT Championship next month at NXT: Deadline“Dirty” Dominik Mysterio is the current North American champion.

Most recently Belair challenged WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY at Crown Jewel.  She was unable to win the championship due to Kairi Sane interfering.  The Women’s WarGames match participants are yet to be announced and I would be surprised if she was not involved.

What did you think of Lynch winning the NXT Women’s Championship?  Was it important for cementing her legacy or did she take an opportunity away from a NXT wrestler?  Do you think Belair should go to NXT and try to win the championship for herself?  Is there anyone in NXT you would like to see Bianca Belair wrestle?  Let us know on social media who will be the women’s competitors for the WarGames match.
